Good luck to all - enjoy the next two months. The next several years are fun but can royally suck. PGY4 here.

Oh and please be nice to the nurses. We already respect your position as the doctor, use us as additional eyes and ears for your patients. Obviously we are not as educated as you....but we aren't stupid either.
I've worked in a teaching hospital the past 9 years and I love it. Love interacting with all the new residents. Would prefer it over working as a nurse in a non teaching hospital.

Shut up nurse.
You are one of those that think they know more than the doctors and act accordingly.

They usually go on to become NPs cause they think that makes them equal to being a doctor

My wife calls them NoPe, try again.

So much fail, ha.
To all the new residents, hope you come out on the other side a better person or the person you want to be because this process is hell and will do its best to chew you up and spit you out.

How many can you rank? What's the likelihood of getting screwed and ending up with your very last option? I'd venture to guess it depends on what specific doctoring you're looking to do/hospital needs?
Just to clarify.
1st you apply for interviews. After the first 10 programs you apply to it cost additional money per program. Then you see which programs give you an interview invitation. Then you decide which you would like to attend. Then you attend the interviews (almost always you pay the travel expense).
You can rank any program. But programs only rank people they have interviewed, so ranking somewhere you didn't interview would be pointless. Most people attend 8 to 15 interviews (some more some less).
Statistically most people get into one of their top three programs.
For things like derm, ortho, integrated plastics, ect. people are just happy to get any spot and don't worry as much about getting their top choice.

Congrats, you're in the same class as the biggest c*nt in my class. You will figure out who she is quickly, I assure you. UAB anesthesia is an awesome program, though, so great job.

At least when you graduate from dental school you're a REAL doctor and not just an apprentice.
Good luck with those residencies.

The exact same would/is said by most in medicine. Both my fiancé and I are doctors and I certainly will encourage our children to seek out another profession.
Press-Ganey and Patient Sats are now dictating modern medicine.

Its amazing to me how few people understand or fully appreciate how sucky this entire process is. The average person thinks a kid gets into med school, takes a lot of tests, and boom they're making $300k/yr.
