Just show her this thread and you won't have to worry about a new car or kids.
She would laugh, actually. She's the one that convinced me to take breaking bad engagement pictures (which she knows I've shared on here before).

Just for that, I'll second the Pilot. Great vehicle for your lady

I don't think I could even try to convince my 28 year old, childless wife to drive a minivan to work
I know its more of a perception thing, but I think this looks better than a lot of SUVs on the market.

Get a 4runner, even an older used one. Trust me. Look at they value they hold, even higher mileage ones.

My main advice is to negotiate price, not payment. Also, try to always use outside financing. Dealerships can sometimes do some messed up stuff with in house financing.

Third for the pilot.
I would not be a big fan of a used Nissan at this time.
Use that Will Cover method and you will be fine.

My advice is to call the big dealers in Houston/Atlanta/etc after the local car dealers won't give you much of a deal. I bought my '06 Ridgeline from John Eagle in Houston after all the local La dealers refused to deal. I saved thousands, the one way air fare was about $120, and the dealer picked me up at the airport. Car dealer at John eagle said they get a lot of business from La for these reasons. La dealers can't (won't) compete.

Or if your looking to buy new Toyota, or pre-owned email me (under profile); I will make sure to give you the TD discount and no BS price. Some of the guys on here can back me up that Im always the lowest, friendly, and find the vehicle your looking for.
If not, agree that Coach Guidry's guide is helpful. GL

That is a lie, they got you drinking their kool-aid, as we (atleast from Toyota side) all buy vehicles from GST (gulf state toyota), thus pay the same price, I have beaten TX dealer offers on multiple occasions, do not know what you bought and what was going on in 2006, but times have changed. I just beat a Houston dealer by $600 yesterday.

just buy through costco. you wont' be able to do better.
Recently became a Costco member, and played around on their car purchasing site after you posted this. I was trying to price out an Accord, and had no idea that it forwarded my inquiry to the dealership. In less than 2 hrs they called me back and were asking for a little more than $2,000 under invoice.
The downside is that they may not have negotiating power with all makes in the area. For example, I tried to look at a Mazda and they didn't have a certified dealer nearby.
