Tips for saving on new car

My wife's 2005 Corolla is on its last limb and we're thinking about children in the near future so she has decided on a little SUV.
Truthfully, I've never really had to deal with buying a new car (I'm in outside sales so I've been in company vehicles for 7 years). What type of things should I look for when discussing price? Is there fees we can get waived or pricing they usually try and sneak in?
Any tips & tricks is much appreciated.

Just drive double the speed limit.
Saves gas as well as wear and tear

I'd get a van instead, there's a reason most families drive them. Plus better gas mileage, insurance, etc.

If y'all are sticking with Toyota, then there isn't too much wheeling and dealing. A Highlander or 4-Runner sounds like it would be the right size.

Thank you.
I don't think I could even try to convince my 28 year old, childless wife to drive a minivan to work

Look up the car you want on true car. Shoot for the lower end of the price spectrum.
