I'm the best man in my friends wedding in two weeks, and I figured now is the best time to start working on the best mans speech. Have a few things down but I'm kind of hitting a wall.

I know the wonderful people of the OT are chock-full of great ideas and advice, so let me hear them

Generally, in referencing the bride, it's best to avoid physical superlatives.

Be yourself and picture all the OT 3's as 10's and you'll be fine.

Watch the beginning of wedding crushers baw. Or old school if you want to ruin it.

Start with 1-3 jokes and then go right down the middle with heartfelt "best wishes", " I admire your relationship", etc. Better to wrap it up quick than to overstay on the mic.

Including all the skanks he banged in his past is a must.

Also include any drug binges.

That should cover it.

Get drunk beforehand and wing it.

“I know you made me your best man, but you’re really the best man.”

And then walk over and kiss him on the mouth for minimum of 2 seconds and then give him a mild slap on the face, smile at him, then walk out.

Given a few over the years - best words of advice are to keep it short (under 5 minutes, ideally under 3), be yourself (be funny, be sincere, whatever fits your personality), find a way to compliment the bride, and try to find a story that you think the audience would relate to about the couple.

Open with a soft joke about the groom. Do not make the speech about you in an way. If you reference the bride only be positive.

Post the speech and see if anyone can help.

I am definitely a jokester so I was going to throw a few jabs. I am close with his family too and they know my humor. However, apparently the brides family is very straight edge, barely drink, and all of that. The bride has bitched about that aspect of her family before.

So basically I have to be walking a tight rope and I don't know what will cross the line

Unless you are a genuinely funny guy, don't go outside your comfort zone and try to play stand-up comedian. Just be yourself; that's what matters.

Even if you are a really funny person, don't use your speech as a platform to steal the spotlight away from the bride and groom. Stick with 25% funny + 75% serious.

If you have a funny story about the groom, find a way to tie it into your speech. Don't tell a funny story just for the sake of telling a funny story.

Compliment the bride.

Avoid cliches.

Don't read your speech from a piece of paper. Write down the relevant bullet points and rehearse what you are going to say. Practice it in your head.

Don't drone on, but don't be short. Shoot for 3 minutes.

frick that, cross the line. Get pissed up and fire at everyone. Go hard at the in-laws, the bride isn’t marrying you.

Obviously I’m kidding. But trust me no one sitting there wants to hear your heart to heart thru a mic. Make people laugh.

Well in that case, I'd definitely throw in that you can certainly tell that the Bride's mom used to be one hot piece of frickberry pie.
