Dr King also said that people should be judged not by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.
That seems to have fallen by the wayside on a particular side of the aisle

my youngest daughter is in her last year of college. She’s been a server since she turned 18. She clears $300 in tips a night after tipping out. On weekends, it’s closer to $500 a night. She ain’t giving that up.
Sure she does. Servers are notorious about lying about how much they make.

Because improper tipping doesn't field racism at all, right?

So if tipping is racist. What about when you see stories of a famous celebrity going somewhere and leaving a massive tip.
I remember seeing once a rapper tipped $10,000 for a meal that wasn't a 10th of that much. Does that make the rapper the most racist person of all time?

When I first opened this up I just assumed they were talking about how black people never tip

Tipping is a white privilege
Black people don’t tip

King was a socialist stooge who lived on the largess of his congregation and society at large. His morales were of the Caligula variety and if he lived to day would be exposed as the clown he truly was.
But then again. George Floyd and Alton Sterling are black heroes so maybe not.

This are related to the quality of service and the level of restaurant you work at.
Don’t like the tips at Wild Wings? Improve your craft and get hired on someplace like Ruth’s Chris.
Otoh, anyone else find it ironic and funny that the people claiming that tipping is racist are the people least likely to tip?

Tipping has a unique role in our country and is often linked to racial oppression.
It is? Can anyone give me a single example of tipping being link to “racial oppression”. Just one, that’s all I ask. Things like segregated water fountains, making blacks ride in the back of a bus, or poll tests/taxes, those things were indeed racial oppression. And they all ended generations ago. So help me understanding how tipping is akin to those things.

Real racism is so rare in our society now that we have to make shite up.

Here's the deal. These people don't like gratuity based service industry jobs because they promote the idea that an individual worker can better their situation through hard work, great personality, better skills, more experience, ingenuity, lateral transitions, moonlighting or any other type of bootstrapping. And the owners and managers of these industries can/must do the same to provide these opportunities
The butt plug coffee shop owner in the OP's story probably doesn't give a rat's arse what wages his barista's make or how much his customer's spend. He wants the ENTIRE COUNTRY of 330 million to transition to a model of quasi-socialist wage slavery where his preferred class of elite decision makers get to tell everyone else how to work, live, think, consume, etc. while "they" control the economic and social levers.
They simply don't like free marketplace economics. They have always been this way. The only thing that changes is the window dressing - muh, racism!

Walmart doesn't allow their Curbside Pickup workers to take tips. We ignore their rule, and tip them every time we go there. We leave it where the groceries go, tell them it for them, and how we really appreciate them working in all kinds of weather, and having the possibility of being around someone who has COVID-19. We really do appreciate it.
On the Tuesday after our six days of sub freezing temps., they were behind in getting orders out. Two managers were helping them. One of them brought our groceries out, and wouldn't take the tip.
My parents are in their late 80's, so we've avoided other people as much as possible, until we've all had both of the vaccine shots. I get my second one on 3/24/2021. Will probably go eat inside a restaurant that night. It's been since last March since we've done that. Have only been in Walmart on Tuesday or Thursday, between 6 am-7 am, when they only let people over 60 in the store. Went to church one time. Found out my Sunday school teacher, our director of music, and one other pastor were all sick with COVID, so I haven't been back.
Looking forward to getting out more.

I am tired of supplementing a companies O&M costs. I am 100% for removing tips and paying people more.
