Tipping for Grocery Store Delivery
Posted on 11/1/18 at 10:42 am

I just tried Walmart’s grocery delivery service. We had a free coupon but the normal fee is $10. It’s about $150 worth of groceries.
I hate this whole tripping thing, but I’m assuming this is a service where it’s appropriate to tip. What says the OT on what’s a proper amount?

They don’t accept tips.....
Amazon on the other hand, $7 tip for the delivery regardless of the amount

I'd probably tip $10.

Did you get it delivered to your house or to your car?
I do KrogerClick It and they just deliver to your car and they are not allowed tips.

I know for sure they don’t accept tips for the pickup where they bring it to your car, but I’m not clear on the delivery. They don’t have anyone around to see them accept the tip when they’re at your house, so it might be more common to tip.

To the house. I’ve done the curb side deal and I know they don’t take tips (although lots of people do it anyway).

When I do this its normally a third party service and I tip 20%.

I work for Walmart. The delivery service is done by a third party. But in the store meeting we discussed the delivery service and the way it was put is “you can tip if you want, but it is not required”

I have different grievance. Getting tired of the first 10 spots on every row in parking being reserved. First handicap, then pregnant women, then women with small children, and now pick-up. It's getting ridiculous and a waste since they are all not being used.

If you're too lazy to go grocery shopping yourself, then you should tip. They are providing you with a service. Much like Waitr when you tip them.

Because you’re too lazy to walk to the back in the kitchen and get your own food???

Yup, good point. Are they even allowed to legally enforce any of them except handicapped?

Luz. OK.
My wife’s in the hospital and I have four kids with me. But sure, lazy. Enjoy your home delivered restaurant food BTW.
Also, check you’re reading comp. if you’re too lazy to actually read then don’t post. I said I fully intended to tip. The question was how much.

Walmart Curbside is fantastic and they don't accept tips. I tried on the first time and the person told me they couldn't accept them. I've used them about 30 times after that. Great service. Yes, they are providing me with a service, but they are also still getting paid their full wage and I have to come to the store to get my items.

It's nothing like Waitr considering the Waitr employees make like $5/hour, plus tips, and they bring the food to your house.

Nah. Just common courtesy to tip 20% to someone who is delivering my groceries to my house, taking them out of the car, putting them in my house when I don't have time after work to go to the store with 2 kids screaming because they are hungry and tired. It's definitely worth the 20%. I highly doubt that 10 dollars is going to break my bank.

So the guy showed up, was really nice. I was going to tip $10 but as I’m pulling my wallet out, he starts walking away and says, “oh no you’re good. It’s already paid for. Just remember about the substitutions. Have a good day”.
So it appears that accepting tips is frowned upon, like Kroger and Walmart curbside pickup, but if I had forced the issue I guess he would have taken it.

Yeah, some take it some don't. I think it depends on who the third party service is.
Also, best wishes to your wife.
