Weather geek.

In a nutshell: The Mississippi River will flow North for awhile.

Think about that over a stiff cocktail.

New Orleans floods when there is a minor thunderstorm. The extremely expensive levee network will help with the surge but it won’t do shite to prevent flooding from 20 inches of rain.

Big difference in rain flooding and flooding from lake pontchatrain draining into the city.

No I believe water flooding into my house would suck regardless.

I’m just pointing out that New Orleans city officials failing to operate the pumps properly is a near certainty. A levee breach or topping is merely a possibility.

This response to a thread saying Nola might get hit hard by a hurricane is something. That it has 30+ up votes on a board full of people who either live there or have family and friends living there, makes me hate this fricking site so much.

Nah. That levee system is way better than it was before. They spent like forty gazillion dollars and engineers on it.

LOL. Nature doesn’t give a frick.

NO is essentially a city built on river mud. No bedrock. One day a hurricane big enough is gonna come by and wipe it off the face of the earth, like a knife scraping frosting from a cake.
