re: Time Names #MeToo Silence Breakers As "Person of the Year"

I’m all about women and men coming out and saying it. I didn’t grow up that way thank god! If something ever happened to me I’m not the one to shut my mouth on it. I just think some women were taught especially the older generation to stay quite and not to dust up anything and that’s why 40 years later things come out. And I see where some women are using this to get attention for some guy flirting with them. I see both sides.

ok

it is. i also said these guys were scumbags
did you just happen to gloss over that? or does it not fit your simple minded narrative?

And my counterpoint is that there needs to be culpability on both parties in a lot of these situations. Just being reasonable is all.
I think it's pretty reasonable to say that this Time Person of the Year was geared around the celebrities, as there is no way to verify anything said on Twitter. There's a reason they didn't ask Heather from New Hampshire to fly into HQ to take a photo for the cover of the magazine, just because she said she was badgered at a Waffle House one night by some drunk dudes.

you've done nothing but speak in fricking riddles for the entire thread, and blasting away at anyone that didn't respond to you how you liked, or simply asked for clarification.
again, no one knows what you mean by this shite. It's funny that these scumbags harassed these chicks but also, what do these chicks expect? Make up your mind, or clearly state what the you mean if you're going to start threads on a certain topic.
You're not witty. You're not clever. You're not some intellectual. You're a half witted little bitch with fast fingers on the internet who needs to lay off reddit.

I haven't read the piece, just heard about it on my drive to work and of course this thread. Thought it was referring to the phenomenon as a whole instead of just the high profile allegations.

pretty good synopsis.
it's kind of like "hey this is about the celebrities, but shout out too all yall who were harassed as well, this one is for you". They certainly didn't go out of their way to make it seem as though every accusation made by any woman ever is legitimate. All of the ones listed have been verified to some extent.

The people who spoke out against sexual abuse and harassment, including the figureheads of the Me Too movement. Represented on the cover by farm worker Isabel Pascual, lobbyist Adama Iwu, actress Ashley Judd, software engineer Susan Fowler, singer-songwriter Taylor Swift and a sixth woman, a hospital worker who wished to remain anonymous and whose face cannot be seen. The feature also specifically spotlights, in order, actress Alyssa Milano, activist Tarana Burke, actress Selma Blair, the six plantiffs in a lawsuit against the Plaza Hotel, politician Sara Gelser, dishwasher Sandra Pezqueda, filmmaker Blaise Godbe Lipman, actress Rose McGowan, psychotherapist and writer Wendy Walsh, blogger Lindsey Reynolds, entrepreneur Lindsay Meyer, housekeeper Juana Melara, journalist Sandra Muller, actor Terry Crews, University of Rochester professors Celeste Kidd and Jessica Cantlon, journalist Megyn Kelly and art curator Amanda Schmitt.[52]

youre melting.
i can simultaneously believe TIME doing this for attention/views is funny while also thinking that (a) coming out with the allegations 15 years later deserves criticism
despite that fact, it (b) doesnt excuse the behavior of these dudes (who i referred to as scumbags)
you decided to attack me before even knowing what i meant by "hilarious" - and thats on you, not me.

Maybe it also tells girls that it’s ok to say it and not stay silent.

wait, you think TIME is doing this for attention and views? They are a magazine. Anything and everything they do in any capacity is about attention and views.

So now I attacked you? #metoo
sorry I gave you shite for not clarifying anything in this thread until this exact post.

a very good point. It sucks that these women waited so long to come out, but we don't know the circumstances, and nuance is always important. At least now women and men alike, particularly in Hollywood, understand that there is no timeline for these actions biting you in the arse.

No. Neither do I think it's ok to sit on this for 15'ish years and then haul it out just to be part of the twitter group.
That's absurd to say "it's not ok"

Remember when the Time Person of the Year was an actual person?
also, it's worth noting that this is the 10th time TIME magazine has made this a group of people. The most recent was 2014, which was the Ebola Fighters.
Again, anything to be upset over.
