It probably helps some talk about their experiences, keep old buddies names and actions alive, and cope with what they’ve been through.

Thread really delivers. Start on Tim but then Marcus, Crenshaw, Jocko, and Chris Kyle all get thrown under the bus.

I have trained with Tim. He trains BJJ at our sister school in Austin. He seems pretty genuine in person and is damn good on the mats. Great with kids. However, I will say this all coming out doesn't shock me at all and it really doesn't seem like this was a remorseful statement. More like I am sorry I got caught. He made this bed so he is gonna have to deal with the fallout.

As for Marcus, that entire op and the whole aftermath with the book and movie was a complete setup by the Navy. Marcus honestly I think was just along for the ride for all of it. There is so much background noise about that entire op which technically started as an operation that was supposed to be run by the Marine elements in country that had been conducting the operations from the beginning. Shite they named it. All they wanted was some Spec Ops air support for insertion and were told they had to turn the whole thing over to a Spec Ops ground force or they weren't getting shite and then the SEAL's that get this are SVT guys.

Oh, I am well aware of all the outright lies Kyle has put out to the public. I really can't put my finger on what makes these guys go down these rabbit holes either because at some point you have to think the truth is going to come out. Same thing for Tim. The dude had a great career and so did Kyle without having to go this route. Not sure if it is the money or what?

can't figure that out, their resume alone should be impressive enough, I always get the feeling from SF types that they are busting at the seams to publicize their badassery on every level, maybe their egos won't let them process that people can fact check?

Because people involved with redwings have constantly refuted his claims. He claimed that “everyone” was dead, but when they found Axelson’s body a week later they said he had only been dead 24-48 hours. They pulled back search and rescue based on his claim.

But, during the middle of a pretty substantial firefight, you see your guy take multiple rounds from 7.62 and I believe he took one to the head (unsure how accurate I’m being there) can we really blame Luttrell for assuming that he was dead?
I don’t know a whole lot about the story beyond the movie and some of the basic info already posted here, but I’ll say this: you never declare a missing comrade dead just because it looked like they “probably” died. I don’t know if that version of events is true, but if it is, that would be an unconscionable act for any service member to commit.

Magazines, not clips. So whoever wrote this did not even use the correct terminology. That makes it suspect.

The only SF guy I know personally is someone I grew up with. I know he did a couple of AFG deployments. He's retired now. He's basically the same guy I've always known. In good shape, but on the small side, like a marathon runner, which he is. He also plays a lot of golf. He has four kids. None of them followed him into the military and he's fine with that. Just a really laid back dude, totally unlike those podcast guys.

Yeah, we can say this now, but with the fog of war, things aren’t as cut and dry. From my understanding, Luttrell fell off the side of a fricking mountain and had no way to get to Axe without being killed himself.

Look, I get it, no brother left behind, but in reality, unless the unit can physically get to the down man and establish fire superiority, people get left behind. It’s shitty, it shouldn’t happen, and it’s just downright heart wrenching, but it happens.

I have a good friend that I grew up with that has very similar characteristics. He ended up retiring from the CIA(they recruited him from SF.) Laid back as can be, never boisterous or a chest beater. His dad was the preacher in our church growing up.
