So you trust Japan and Korea and the US not to harvest your personal data?

I don't think it is as much of this as it is that we've reached such a divisive point in politics that: 1. there seems to be no middle ground for anyone's opinion and 2. there NOBODY is representing the "middle" ground. As such, everyone has to pick a side. Either you're a strong supporter of your side or you see that see as the best choice between to bad choices. It is a broader discussion of what brought us to this point and not listening to opposing positions with compromise is certainly at the center of it.

Is this the best path? Curious and please explain. Thanks.

Well said. It sucks to have to hold your nose and just vote for the lesser of two evils.

No. Sarcasm...in these times, I'm beginning to trust less corporations and governments. They all have their own agendas, whatever they may be. I'm sure our government also deploy techniques I do and wouldn't approve of if I knew of them.

Its the world we live in; however, I don't think we have to leave all doors open!

Our government has intel that Tik Tok is feeding mass amounts of user data to the Chinese government, who is or already are using it back against the US.
Our government has literally said they have no evidence TikTok is feeding data to the Chinese government.

I'm curious, are you implying there is no useful data to be collected using both AI and millions of live/real data collectors?
Machine learning is a legit concern, but they don't have anything close to "millions of live/real data collectors." Even Alphabet and Facebook don't have that.

Dumb argument. Most teens can't vote anyway. For those who are eligible to vote, this is the first time they can "head to the polls." The vast majority of eligible teens still won't vote. And those teens who will vote are very likely to vote with their parents.

It’s even worse than that - whenever people DO try to represent the middle ground, they get shite on by both sides. If you aren’t a card-carrying “anti-racist,” you are supporting white supremacists. If you don’t like Trump, you are advocating for a socialist revolution.

Give me a break. The parties are supposed to reflect their constituencies, not the other way around. I’ve watched people twist their ideologies into knots because somehow conforming to the will of the tribe has become more important than free thinking and individual principles.

Republicans didn't appreciate how reasonable Clinton was, and Democrats didn't appreciate how reasonable Bush was.

Because of that, we've been stuck with two extremes--Obama and Trump--for the last 12+ years.

It will be interesting to see what FB stock does next week. If FB stock goes up as a result of the US government banning tiktok, can that be considered stock manipulation?

I wouldn’t be so sure about that. (I’m also not advocating for all social media to be banned.)

Donald Trump said he’s approved Oracle Corp.’s bid for the U.S. operations of TikTok “in concept,” a deal forced by the president’s orders last month declaring the popular video-sharing app a national security threat.

“I have given the deal my blessing,” Trump told reporters Saturday as he left the White House for a campaign rally in Fayetteville, N.C. “I approved the deal in concept.”

The main thing that brought us to this point.

- Social media: If someone goes on social media and gives their opinion on an issue they are immediately associated with a political side.

I'll use the Jacob Blake situation as an example. If someone said that it was a justified shooting and that he put himself in that situation, just because you didn't subscribe to "another black person shot by the police" you were labeled a pro-trump racist".

On the other side, Trump can tweet something and anyone who disagrees with that one tweet are immediately labeled a leftist. People don't check to see whether or not there might be more issues you agree with him on or not, they see that one comment and they jump on the person who made that comment.

That makes people pick sides. "These people are attacking me for saying this one thing.. Well frick them, I don't want to be associated with them"..

Social media drives perception, but doesn't represent reality.
