Since you asked you’ll get the true story.
In 1998 or 99, I was on this site called Tigerroar/ Tigers Lair. Run by this guy Hail Reagan.

It was an early LSU site. People didn’t stay on the net like they do now, as in every day. Anyhow I did and with others we would crack jokes when a poster thought they had breaking news. The quips would be “Eli Whitney invents the cotton gin, etc. And specifically
“ Japs bomb Pearl Harbor”.

Knowing Animal House I switched it to “Germans bomb” per the Belushi quote. So Germans became them and is still now the moniker for “old news “

I left that site and came to TD. Somehow it made it over to TD and many years later I noticed it was still being used.

But in Animal House, they said “Germans?” Because it was WRONG information, not old information.
