You're not really supposed to draw on a drawn gun.

Well if they came up on him from behind and he had it positioned in the front hip he would have the drop on them.
If they were face to face and he had it on his back he could have acted like he was reaching for his wallet and pulled the gun on them.

My uncle who is 70 and a Vietnam vet would've done the same thing....
He doesn't leave his house without carrying his Rossi snub nose 357....
