Three new buildings proposed in New Orleans warehouse district

Two of the buildings are on Annunciation Street by the Pontchartrain Expressway.
At 1100 Annunciation, a 90-unit, 16-story condo building designed by Trapolin+Peer Architects branded 1100 Annunciation is the latest incarnation of a project previously known as Tracage, according to a website advertising the condos. The developer is Jackson, Miss.-based Spectrum Capital. Spectrum is the same developer who did Turquoise Place in Orange Beach.
BCH Metal Works LLC, led by Ben Butler and Eskew+Dumez+Ripple Architects, is in the early stages of designing a 10-story hotel at 1020 and 1038 Annunciation St., currently a parking lot and a metal warehouse that would be demolished, city permitting records show.
Also at 1047 Camp Street a new 6 story 200,000 sq ft building is being built with commercial on the ground level and residential units facing the street.

This is in addition to the 9 story, 180,000 sq ft D Day Museum Hotel building that is under construction at 1000 Magazine

if mitch wasn't so ate up by statues of guys who've been dead for 100 years, he'd figure out something to do with the Plaza Tower but you know, first things first.

Looks pretty cool.
While the demographics of residents and crime levels are different, the way Manhattan became safe again was pricing out the "riff raff" and beautifying/rebuilding delapidated city blocks (and heavy policing).

Neither appear architectural masterpieces.
Much of modern development seems lazy to me. It's a matter of individual preference, but those designs could be in any metropolitan city. That sort of development takes away from the uniqueness of NOLA.

The WHD has been safe for years

I agree with this 100%.

the warehouse district/CBD isn't unique at all. there are areas like that in basically every major city.

It's not as nice as The Saulet

Relatively safe to the rest of New Orleans, and I'm talking the city as a whole in my original statement.
Clearing out/repurposing old warehouses for high end apartments is always a good thing for the city as a whole.
But I get your point.

I think you need places like this to attract young, business professionals to live in the City. Tourists don't really come to New Orleans to hang out in the Warehouse District. There is a reason these types of buildings are in every major city.

There are, but I do agree that architecture itself has gotten lazy though - not just in these examples but across the country. The local architectural norms aren't taken into consideration so that the building "fits" in with it's surroundings, but rather the architect goes modern just because it's the easiest route.

or, of course, the architect wants to be "edgy" or "jarring."

Yeah there's definitely that too. Same with modern art in general.

Can't wait to see how the city delays these projects in an effort to bilk money out of the developers.

They've been fighting since before Katrina. The Tracage was first proposed during my ill-fated freshman year at UNO in 2004.

There have been many projects in the WHD the last 10 years and I can't recall any of these issues. Seems like it's been non stop construction around there.
Now the World Trade Center is something the city did fck up with their stupidity. I think they finally got it right and now some arse hat has it on hold with a silly lawsuit. Once this gets the green light to move forward it's going to be an awesome addition with the new development.
