That is a really specific amount of shakiness.

Lots of assumptions for sure.We only know the tragic outcome. I would just add that trying to get off that island in a boat, on a new moon, at 2am and to Marsh Harbour would not be something I would want to try if all I needed was beer from Maxwells much less emergency care for my daughter.

Some on a pilot forum are saying that the yacht was there so its very likely the helicopter landed on the yacht. No idea? But the reason I say that is the discussion was the take off, and I would think on a yacht it would be more likely to take off vertically then at an angle? You certainly could not take off forward on that yacht?

And the thing vibrates as you fly. For some reason I was thinking it would be a smooth ride. But don't let me dissuade you. If you can load up on dramamine and not blow all over the helicopter, it's gorgeous. They set you down in the bottom of the canyon with great views all around.

We did that tour from the Vegas airport, over Lake Meade and the Hoover dam, through the Grand Canyon, landed on the rim and had a picnic and champagne, then back and flew down the Strip on the way back to the airport.

It was very nerve racking. I don’t think I would do it again.

Unless that deck is reinforced for that kind of load, I would have my doubts. Pic shown is a AW109, a considerably lighter airframe.

Really sucks to be hiking in the flight path of those things. They come by literally every 10 or 15 minutes. Ruins the wilderness experience.

Yup, that was my trip. You get back at night so the strip looks cool.

If I recall correctly, the helicopter didn't look completely different than this one. I think it sat only 8 thought, but we definitely rolled before takeoff (which i know many helicopters do).

Spitbaling, but his last yacht was over 200ft. I don't think that you could get that boat into his dock, much less whatever he upgraded to. The boats in the Google image look to be a sportfisherman and a hundredish foot cruiser. They could always have had a large yacht anchored nearby, but why not land in the back yard if you can?

New speculation based on photos that it was a pelican strike.

That shouldn't be hard to confirm or dismiss.

Was not a pelican, helicopter pilot forum down to two best bets, 1 pilot error due to pressure to take off in less than optimal conditions 2 or immediate mechanical failure perhaps from hard landing before take off

Sure. When migrating or just scared up by boaters etc.

Highly doubt this is that though coming from a guy whose best friend was on 1549.

I think that scenario was probably generated by the pic with the PIC windscreen pushed back. It has the appearance, but bird strikes leave a lot of evidence, even the small ones. It's not hard to identify if that is indeed the case.

Here’s Sully’s uniform & the First Officer’s on display in Charlotte.

The A320 from 1549 is there too.

I did not know it is in permanent static display.

I knew the aircraft was there, but didn't know about the uniforms. That's cool and a well deserved tribute to them.
