For the most part, they all try their best. Its just the system is broken.

I was wondering what happens when the bill comes in. Do they just not pay and their credit tanks?
Written off and subsidized by us bill paying folks.
Most hospitals don't go after bills with credit bureaus. You can most likely not pay next time you go to the hospital and it won't hurt our credit at all. This fact is usually buried on the website somewhere - google the hospital name and "Charity Policy".
They'll hound you and send you bills forever, but they usually don't send to credit bureaus. They will send to collection agencies, however, which isn't the same.

Here's the really fricked part. The people in the hood call an ambulance for an upset tummy and they go before you so the ambulance can be freed up. Doesn't matter that you have been waiting longer and are in more pain.
There are fewer things I take pleasure in doing than sending these abusers to the waiting room (assuming they aren’t dying). Seeing the look on their face as they get wheeled to triage and not to a bed is just *chef’s kiss*

Either claim chest pain or can’t walk and you’ll be taken immediately

They do try this thinking the same as you, but it does not work.
EMS isn't held up. If the person is stable, they'll be sent right out to the waiting room to wait with everyone else, and EMS goes on their way.

before a bed opened up.
It has nothing to do with beds. That's just code for we don't have enough nurses to admit you so you have to wait till the next shift to see if we have enough or we can call someone in.

It’s always a friggin UTI, ain’t it?
You can order test strips online.
Call the doctor and ask them to call in a prescription.
That’s what we did with my elderly mother after too many hospital visits during after hours.

Saw this Monday night myself. Had to take my mom to the ER (UTI and severe anemia). EMS brings a lady in, sits her in a chair in the waiting room, grabs his shite and is gone.
We got to the ER at 8 something Monday evening. Finally got in an ER bay around midnight, and into a room about 6:15 yesterday morning. And this is in the outer ring suburbs of Atlanta, not a heavily urban area.

I waited 6 minutes today.
However I drove twenty miles to get to the shorter wait.
But I know what you’re saying.

Back in the ER for the fifth time in three months. This time it's low hemoglobin and out of whack BUN and creatinine.

So I'm in the ER with my relative and I get to talking with this black dude. He says he has a rotator cuff problem, "I was working on a car and it fell off the jack and landed on my shoulder." We're there about an hour, he's talking normally and doesn't seem to be in pain. They call us back at he same time and put him in an adjacent room. After a while I hear the doctor say "displaced fracture, we're going to transport him."

That’s nothing, wife had a 12 hour wait. After they saw her another 16 hours before she could get a room in hospital

Average ER wait time at the hospital I moonlight in is like 14 hours. I hope you brought a phone charger.
Bad thing is if you can wait 14 hours then it wasn’t really an emergency

The private hospital here average wait time is like 30 minutes

Don’t have open beds or staffing? We had a relative stuck in ICU bc of “no beds” and the nurse said it was staffing (and I saw plenty of empty rooms). I said no worries, but she’d better not get a bill for ICU. She was moved to ICU from her room for a night bc the evening nurse didn’t want to care for her. Released from ICU next day, but stuck there a day or 2 more bc of staffing. She didn’t get a bill.
