Michael Moore made a fricking movie about how awesome Cuba's healthcare system
Here's the bit you leave out, literally every other first world country has either a public option or straight up government funded healthcare. But of course to people like you that's just straight communism despite the fact that every other emergency service is paid by the government. Nah you're far happier getting raked over by the insurance companies because you're afraid of change or you've been told your whole life that's socialism and it will cause us to be just like Cuba or the Soviets

Quite the leaps you're making here. But tell me this, if Cuba's healthcare system is so awesome, why are they taking to the streets in protest due to a lack of medicine? And what "emergency service" is paid for by the government? Besides police and fire?

Sucks for Cuba. I heard good things. Hope they get help and become a real democracy!

Never said it was awesome, just that the general idea among progressives is that socialized medicine is the way to go and the conservative argument is usually something about communism or socialism.

Love how you just brush aside police and fire,

So your premise is that because other people do it, it's not socialism? That's pretty typical logic for a smooth brained individual like you.

No one is happier with that option, per se. In fact, if we had a system that didn't involve such massive levels of bureaucracy, the costs would be far cheaper. The idea that the costs are cheaper because the government pays the bill is a complete lie.

Not brushing them aside, wondering what they have to do with the healthcare system. Which is what we are discussing.

Communism as it turns out, sucks.
This is a great place/thread to drop this video again. This was posted on the OT a while back, but it needs a post-a-day type deal:
Cuban goes to American Supermarket for the First Time - (Communism vs Capitalism)

No my premise is that implementing a government funded healthcare isn't going to turn us into the USSR or Cuba. Also of course it's socialism just like the police, military, fire department, public roads, social security, are also forms of socialism. People use the word to scare people when in reality America has always been a mix of the two systems capitalism and socialism. When we have to little of one of the two it becomes a problem

Just that they're forms of socialism and the scare tactic of oh M4A will turn us into commies is nothing more than fear mongering

So what? Why does that mean we have to do it? Which of these have a better overall healthcare system than we do?

No one is saying we will turn into a communist or socialist society if the healthcare system is nationalized. But the quality of services provided will almost certainly be degraded.

I probably have distant relatives protesting there.

And yet the US consistently ranks outside the top 10 in overall healthcare

I, for one, have full confidence that the federal government would definitely be capable of running an efficient and high quality health care system. What could go wrong?
For fun, maybe someone could point me to a really good 350 million person single payer system for a country with a lot of divergent political viewpoints, ethnicities, etc. That would make me feel better.

It's certainly a large first step.

I'll take "Other large, unaccountable, inefficient bureaucracies that aren't worth what taxpayers give them" for $800, Alex.

Government-run entities in America are almost always the worst option for everyone and that's not even a debate.

Let's just look at how much fraud and waste there was in the last 2 stimulus packages. Dawgfan is the quintessential tribe person who takes up for his side no matter what while accusing everyone else of being tribalists.

By who? It's our vaccines that are the world standard against Covid - developed by our "big evil pharma" industries.
