Man charged with murder after shooting, killing man who allegedly stole his car from north Harris Co. apartment complex

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A man was found dead with gunshot wounds after he crashed into a parked car in north Harris County, according to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. This happened shortly before 4 a.m. on Golden Eagle Drive, which is near Beltway 8 and Mesa Drive. Gonzalez said the man, who was in his late teens or early 20s, had been shot in an incident involving a gray SUV before the crash. The vehicle he had been driving, a black sedan, was reported stolen from a nearby apartment complex.
quote:
The owner of the black sedan admitted to deputies that he drove his wife's SUV and chased the vehicle being driven by the young man along with an unknown male passenger, according to Gonzalez. Gonzalez said when the alleged car theft suspect refused to stop driving, Caples fired shots into the car, causing him to crash. He was later found dead by deputies. His identity has not been released.

Probably because he's an ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT.

Yep, may have spent years of his life working for it.

The value of life becomes net negative when you steal from others.
Not guilty

I wouldn't convict him

Legally speaking, he's technically okay. Morally speaking, no issue with the killing of thieves.
quote:
A person is justified in using deadly force against another to protect land or tangible, movable property:
(1) if he would be justified in using force against the other under Section 9.41; and
(2) when and to the degree he reasonably believes the deadly force is immediately necessary:
(A) to prevent the other's imminent commission of arson, burglary, robbery, aggravated robbery, theft during the nighttime, or criminal mischief during the nighttime; or
(B) to prevent the other who is fleeing immediately after committing burglary, robbery, aggravated robbery, or theft during the nighttime from escaping with the property; and
(3) he reasonably believes that:
(A) the land or property cannot be protected or recovered by any other means; or
(B) the use of force other than deadly force to protect or recover the land or property would expose the actor or another to a substantial risk of death or serious bodily injury.

We should calculate how much tax payer money that guy saved and give him a tax credit or something. At least a Best Buy gift card maybe. He just did the world a favor. Took out a shite bag and saved us the expense of keeping that shite bag alive in the pokey for the rest of his life.

Idiot shouldn't have talked to cops without a lawyer.
Never, ever, ever talk to the cops without a lawyer if you are anything other than an ancillary character in an event you have literally no connection with.

I’m all for thieves catching a bullet, but there is a reasonable limit on defending your property. Following the car and shooting at him while driving down the road probably crosses over that line.

The explosion in criminality is going to lead to more vigilante action and a lot of jury nullification. That might be the most effective deterrent. I won't be surprised when citizens go that route when faced with a system that favors the criminal over the law abiding citizen.

Idk about that. All imminent threat ended when the guy left in the car.

Why should the property owner be restrained here? He's the one being violated and wronged.

If enough of them get shot maybe they will stop stealing.

I’d vote not guilty 100 percent. We need more of this

I get that.
Just pointing out that gunfire between moving vehicles is not something I’d consider generally reasonable without imminent threat to your life.

As am I, but that doesn't trump the law. That dude is going to prison for a while.

A hell of a lot more.

That's because you A) don't know the law and B) can't read.
I posted Texas law concerning the Use of Deadly Force to Protect Property.
"Imminent threat" has nothing to do with it.
