There are better crossovers.

My sister has one and something is always breaking on it.
She does drive like shite, though.

I have an '06 3.7L Laredo 4x4 with 167K miles on it and still runs fine. Just minor repairs have been needed like water pump, transmission line, brakes.
I've taken good care of it with maintenance every 40k miles or so, regular oil changes, etc.
I'm looking at getting a midsize truck this summer (Tacoma TRD or Colorado ZR2) and will most likely keep my Cherokee as well.

It's one of the better vehicles made by FCA.
It's actually still on a Daimler-Benz chassis, which is probably why it ride and handles as well as it does. It rides well, features good rear wheel drive proportions, can actually go off road, and can tow moderate weights.
It's exactly what an SUV should be IMO.
I would get a Grand Cherokee. I wouldn't touch any of the Fiat-based Jeeps though.

This has been my experience as well. I bought a used '04 JGC ten years ago which now has about 140k+ on it.
Other than routine maintenance, I've probably spent less than $1000 total on it over the past 10 years.
Getting ready to buy another car next year. It'll be a somber day when I have to put my old reliable out to pasture.
My understanding is that JGC's had a run of shitty years sometime between 2010-2016. I have some friends who bought a 2014, and they traded it in after just six months because things kept breaking.
But I think Jeep has corrected those issues with their newest models.
