Do yourself a favor and check out the new XC60. My gf and I have looked at everything in that size range, and they are far and away the best IMHO. They definitely aren't the fastest out of the bunch, but the whole package is better than anything sold right now

You'll need tools. Lots of tools.

I test drove one (needed a smaller SUV than my Yukon for a new baby). I loved the look! It was by far my favorite. However, i don’t find the options available very good for the price. One thing I required was parking sensors and you have to turn them on every time you get in the car. I also test drove the Cadillac XT5, Mercedes GLC300 and the Lexus RX. Of those, the Jaguar was my least favorite. Best looking, but least favorite. I ended up with the Mercedes and I love it. Hope that helps.

Friend from h.s. who has done well as a Dallas contractor has a big four door Jag sedan, very low production model, that has 500 + h.p. He took me for a ride, and the car has incredible acceleration (especially because it is a big full-size car).

I remember the awful inboard rear brake rotors, dual gas tanks that would crumple inward if a pressure valve became blocked (which often occurred), etc.

Why do the British drink warm beer? They have Lucas refrigerators.

I couldn't deal with the outdated infotainment system in that Jag.

I'd second the idea of the XC60 or the X3 M40i. M40i is the fastest one of the group and has probably the best infotainment system. Only knock on the BMW is the lack of standard high-end safety features such as lane keeping systems and auto-stopping systems.

I know a Brit couple who had the same type of Jag. They dumped it after less than a year. Had multiple issues.

The infotainment in the XCs is damn slick, and distracting as hell. You need all the safety features so you don't die playing with the huge touch screen.

I like the mix of physical buttons/iDrive/touch screen/gesture controls in the BMW. It has plenty of party tricks too if you've watched Doug DeMouro's video about the 7 series. Same infotainment system.
I could have gone for more of the safety features, but my wife wasn't a fan of them.

And boring and dated exterior and interior styling. But apparently the new one does drive a lot better than previous models which is intriguing.

I'd go Mercedes GLC43 AMG. Best combination of looks, performance, features, price.

Porsche is obviously nice but a lot smaller and almost nothing comes standard so it gets $$$$ really quick. Quick configuration shows 10K more expensive than the Mercedes with similar features.

I drove the Jaguar and I liked it but the interior feels cheap compared to competitors.

The 4 cylinder in the Volvo was pretty disappointing in the XC 90 I've driven, sounds like crap.

Wife test drove one and wasn't impressed. The interior looks "fancy" but extremely tacky and busy in my opinion. Somehow it all comes off as cheap and trying too hard. That tablet glued to dash thing is bad.

They're also a good bit more expensive than the BMW.

I agree the tablet screen is bad but everything else seems pleasing to the eye

the f-pace sits in a very competitive segment.

in terms of performance models, it's up against audi's sq5, the porsche macan, the bmw x3m40i and the mb glc43. I'm not sure if i'd choose an f-pace over any of those.

if looking at a base model, it's up against the non-performance variants of the above mentioned models, plus the volvo xc60 and others.
