Tecovas makes nice boots. I wear ropers pretty much everyday and rotate between my Tecovas and lucchese and can’t really tell the difference between the two. Especially considering the price difference

They are probably made in the same factory. Apparently the way that works is that they buy factory floor time and provide their own leathers and soles to the factory and the same craftsman make the boots.

What’s the point of the zipper? They’re already slip on. Why would you need a zipper?

My wife made the mistake of going boot shopping when she was several months pregnant with out first child. She got a $300 boot stuck on her foot. The store staff had to cut it off of her.

She wished they had zippers.

They are not.

Lucchese has their own mfg facility in El Paso.

Tecovas uses Vaqueras, a company like you describe, in Mexico.

Lucchese - legit quality and many levels of price and value
Hondo - great bang for buck. Good boots
BlackJack - can be pricey but really good
JRC & Sons (they are Cavenders house boot. Made in the same factory as Tecovas IIRC and really good quality for the money.
Chisos- new, small company but from what I’ve read exceptional quality

Ariat - Yellowstone and Fla/Georgia line enthusiasts. Cheap. Hit or miss quality. Ugly as frick.

I have Lucchese Tanner and Sunset ropers and love them. Can pair them with just about anything.

Edit. Don’t ever call anything with a zipper or elastic slip on a cowboy boot in public.

Tecova are good boots but I'm not a fan of their stying. There is no way I would by western boots with zippers. That's a cry for help.

Not all of them.

Initially, Tecovas was doing great. They were selling traditional Western boots (cowboy & roper).

But...then Paul took on investors and had to continue to feed the machine he created. While he grew up in Dallas - he went to Harvard, was a consultant and knew the VC world pretty well in his prior life.

Once he had to start bringing in more and more revenue(especially once they went tru VC and not friends & family) - that's when the shitty East Coast shite like the zippered boots started showing up.

As of now, I think they continue to do an amazing job with customer service, the boots are still comfortable, and the prices are still good. As long as he can hold it all together along with the growth rate of store openings, then they should continue to be a solid option in the boot world.

Oh shite...here comes the mob. You cannot tell a man that your $300 boots feel the same as his $600 boots and not expect backlash

No doubt...they still sell some quality products. I don't particularly like all of their styles but it doesnt matter to me too much. I just chose to not buy those.

I agree with him.

As far as comfort goes - my Tecovas rubber-soled cowboy boots are some of the most comfortable boots I've ever worn.

Also, if you wear a brand like Lucchese, then you know you're also paying for the name as well.

pretty accurate. I would add: favorite of oilfield hands, second only to Twisted X. Only real use is a safety toe for kicking pain in the arse horses or cattle.
