Thoughts on something on my FB feed that has disturbed me profoundly (long)

I will refrain from posting the pic just in case it would cause the same reaction it has caused me so please do not ask. I am trying, for the life of me, to figure out why in the world someone would post this but I am sure maybe some others here would have a different view.
So I am scrolling through my FB feed last night while watching TV and I come across a pic of what appears to be a baby in someone's hands. My immediate thought was "that's a tiny baby" and then I read the caption. To summarize, the mother had very prematurely gone into labor and given birth to a tiny baby, so small in fact that its little feet were about the size of a fingernail.
Well further reading revealed that her baby in the picture was in fact deceased and was stillborn. And here, for all the world to see, was a pic of this dead child laying in the mother's hand on its back with its little eyes closed and its arms laying lifelessly next to its tiny little body.
What kind of person would post this on a social media website? She was a "friend" from high school who I haven't said a word to in many years and just happened to be on my friend list. Last night I lost my appetite and did not have dinner and actually this morning I skipped my meal again. It is one of the most tasteless things I have ever seen in my life. Can anyone make an argument that would justify this behavior? Would anyone here post a pic of their stillborn child to social media?

Happened to me a few years ago. A girl I know, who is kind of weird anyway, posted a bunch of pictures of her holding a baby.
I started looking through them, and the baby didn't look well (but was not noticeably tiny). I began reading the captions and realized it was stillborn. She's not the mother, she was a cousin.
I understand the need for family to have that time. Putting it on blast on social media, like 25 pictures worth, was incredibly fricked up in my opinion.

I have been surprised at the number of my FB friends with advanced degrees in medicine, political science, economics, theology, et. al.

I wouldn't do it but people grieve differently.

Maybe she thought the child was beautiful and wanted to share the pic? Ask her but it doesn't sound like any ill-intent was there.

They are looking for support from loved ones. As someone who has seen the devastation of losing a child in that manner I can tell you it is a very difficult thing to get over. They aren't posting the pics for a "hey look at me" thing, it's part of the grieving process.

That is always the easiest fix to 99.99% of the problems that people bitch about with FB.
