Thoughts on moving to Anchorage, AK

I was up there working 10 yrs ago. Loved it.

It's a bit more expensive than here, but you'll still be very comfortable on 250k.

DO IT!!!Lived there for 3 years and i grew up in south Louisiana . Yes there are a few bad parts but nothing like BR or NO. Plus you'll be making an extra 6 or 7 grand just for living thereon top of what you make for work. Does your family enjoy the outdoors? As roger stated Eagle river is really nice. If your making bank you can always send the wife and kids back to louisiana for a month out of every year with that AK dividend check.

Anchorage can get cold but the city sits in the middle of a mountain range so the Wind chill never gets to cold. When its 30 in anchorage it feels about like 50 degrees in Louisiana. Anchorage has pretty much everything a big city has: A college,Movie Theaters, Malls Etc.. Summers are like 19 to 20 hours of daylight. You'd be crazy not to do this!

Anchorage is awesome

Granted I was only there for a week but I could have totally seen myself living there. While it was cold it wasn't that bad.

The bowl doesn't get a lot of wind. The Hillside can be windy. No wind, cold is easily bearable.

Probably to far eastern Tennessee or western North Carolina due to the wife. She really hates cold weather. These aren't culcha free but it's far less than here brother. I could easily live in Montana, Wyoming or Idaho but I'd probably have to get divorced.

Anchorage is Montgomery, AL surrounded by mountains and frigid water.

Source: I live in Montgomery and have spent a week in Anchorage.

If you love to hunt big game, you need to go. You can hunt sheep every year.
