Anchorage is full of reedy white methhead dipshits and is routinely on lists of cities with the highest crime rates but I'm sure the lack of black people will convince the entire OT that it's an utter paradise

There are some black people in Anchorage, also a lot of hispanics and polynesians, as well as the aforementioned trashy whites. There is culcha aplenty, albeit different than the kind around here.

Do it. Look for a place in Eagle River, AK. 15-20 mins from Downtown Anchorage.

My wife is a speech therapist and got a job at a school in Eagle River.

I go to Anchorage 3 to 4 times a year and it sucks. ABC and craft beers are the only positives I can think of. Oh and I should clarify that I'm not an outdoors man.

Alaska is just so incredibly different from LA. The size of the city of Anchorage felt like a mix between BR and Lafayette, but the sheer seemingly untouched natural beauty of Alaska is incredible.

The biggest issue for me would be the isolation from home (Louisiana). Are you from LA? Is your wife from LA? If so, are you very close to your families? Are your kids close to your family? I'm sure you know, but getting to Alaska from LA is no picnic. Will being so far away from home and family create issues for your marriage/kids? If so, the money just doesn't seem worth it.

I am from Florida, go Noles, and wife is from New Orleans area and went to LSU (she introduced me to TD). She is close to her family. I have moved a lot since college and I am close to my family but don't need to be colocated with them. Kids are young so they will adapt. The distances is a big deal for her.

I have already taken the job but moving here saves me a lot of commuting time and allows more time at home.

In a freaking heart beat I'd take that gig. Worst case scenario, you don't like it and move back.

For me it's much better to take the chance and it not work than wonder about never taking the chance.

Mountain view district is the most diverse in country, and one of the most violent.

Its easily avoided.

That's on target, NoHo.

I passed up an opportunity to move to Alaska for work early in my career. I often wonder what if.

I think I'd need about a 50% raise. Highly doubtful I'd do it for less. Might be beautiful but it's awfully isolated.

Hell, one of my customers has operations in Hawaii and most of the jobs are two year assignments. Turnover was too high without the guarantee of being able to move back. People can apply to extend, but most don't.
