You're going against traffic if you live on the eastbank. You're probably talking a ~20 minute commute from the Garden District/Warehouse District, which are two of the best areas in NOLA. The Warehouse District especially is great for younger professionals without children. Uptown near Tulane is a ways away from the bridge and will be inconvenient.
If you want a dullish, cheaper, but still OK for family area, old Jefferson and River Ridge near the Huey P would be good.
Do not live on the Westbank (which Marrero is a part of).

Grew up in marrero, in luling now.
Not bad on the river side of marrero by marrero middle.
Also hillcrest subdivision and barataria going towards lafitte.

Old Gretna (river side of Westbank Expressway only) is one of the nicer areas in metro New Orleans and you would be really close to work.

Lol what? Take Octavia, Nashville, Broadway or Napoleon to Broad to Earhart to CCC. 10-15 min tops from Uptown near Tulane. With heavy traffic coming home 20-25 min tops.

Rent an apartment in The Saulet. They do short term type stuff and are filled with young professional types. Easy interstate access and lots of stuff within walking distance.

You can get you a real nice apartment on Manhattan by the Walmart for $600.

My parents live down Barataria in Marerro. If they didn't live there I would have no reason to go to the westbank. Parts of it are oK, and there are some nice subdivisions, but I would never want to live there.
