I agree with their views on polygamy

I find that Mormons as a group tend to walk their talk more than most other Christian denominations.
I've known a few. Very decent people overall.

See, I've always thought they had it backwards. Think if there were another multiple husbands...
"Your turn to mow the grass, I'm taking the boat fishing."
"Your turn to go on date night, I'm going to the game."
"Your turn to pay the mortgage, I paid last month."
"She's crying, I didn't do shite. Must be something you did."
"She's got book club, let's grab a twelve pack and fish."
All those situations seem better than multiple women that are all going to sync cycles and eventually turn 25% of your life into chaos.

They are, by and large, great people….they are also cultists I wouldn’t trust any farther than I can throw them.

people are so week minded and crave good news. so.....if yo u lose your job, become a pastor and open up a church. convince people that your religion has no hell. they will be lined out the door for miles and your pockets will be lined with gold.

yeah pretty much this. i know a few in the Marines, and they're really good dudes and typically very patriotic and conservative, but...they're always like 2 degrees off of normal.

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints aka Mormon. I grew up in South Louisiana with mostly Baptist and Catholic friends. I was the only Mormon in my high school when I graduated. I've been answering the question "what do you believe that's different?" since I was six. I think I can add some insight on this topic.
In his time, Joseph Smith had the question "If there is one God, one faith, and one salvation, then why are there so many different churches?" He claimed that God the Father and His son Jesus Christ appeared to him while questioning which religion he should join. Basically, he was told that the original church that Jesus and his apostles had established had been lost and splintered into the many different churches we see today. He was told that he would help restore Christ's church and the fullness of the gospel back to the earth.
Periodically, he claimed he was visited by various angels (John the Baptist, Peter, James, and John) who laid their hands on his head and gave him the authority to do the work.
Also, he claimed the angel Moroni visited him and instructed him where to find and how to translate the Book of Mormon. The BoM testifies that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world and provides clarity to some of the simple truths that had been changed or removed from the Bible over the years (like children dying before baptism being condemned). The book doesn't mention Joseph Smith at all. But, tells the story of ancient prophets in the Americas. Basically, God's communications with the people who lived in the Americas around the same period of time as the Bible.
I would say the appeal of his message was that the heavens were not sealed to us. That revelation was leading the church just like in the times of old. He claimed actual authority from the hands of Jesus and the apostles. Not authority from the Bible or a seminary college.
The Book of Mormon is a very powerful book in teaching about Jesus Christ and his relationship with us and our salvation. The BoM and its translation basically serve as the evidence of Joseph Smith being a prophet. If the book is true then everything that comes before it is also true. So those that read it are moved to belief it's message and subsequently are lead to believe Joseph Smith's claims.
These are probably some of the main things that attracted the early followers of the Mormon religion and distinguishes the church from other churches.

Also, points of clarification on some common misconceptions.
Mormons do believe in the Bible and study it as much as the Book of Mormon. The BoM is not meant to replace the Bible.
Mormons don't practice polygamy anymore. I had friends come over for a crawfish boil once and were surprised I only had one mom lol.. there are some "fundamentalist" groups that aren't associated with the church that still practice it though.
