If you didn't pick one that was adequate, she'd go out and get the best one.
So you always had this internal debate while out there picking out your the GD switch.

I never had a problem with my parents correcting my son.
I would have had a big problem if they spanked my son.
I got my share of whippings as a kid but never saw the need to raise my hand to my son. He was corrected; given a time out; or lost privileges, but never did anything that I thought deserved being struck.

I dragged a two by four back once. My grandpa started laughing and took a picture. I'm grinning like an idiot in it, thinking I life hacked my grandpa. Then he went and picked his own switch and wore me out.

Depends on the grandparents. No set rule here.

Yes, grandparents may need to be told certain things when it come to teaching their grandkids but when did it become acceptable to not give them any of the respect that they deserve?Damn, I'm sick and tired of it.

My Granny used to beat my arse with a wooden spoon

I used to have to go get the switch when I was young.
Today, if the parents are present, we will only interject to prevent injury or property damage (particularly ours). Now if the parents are gone and the kids are on our watch, our rules apply. I would not spank except as a last resort but I aint taking no shite from them either.

I corrected (put my kid in timeout) once and spanked him once already for a non-related matter. My niece, who is a manipulative liar (5 y.o.) told my MIL my son had thrown something. she gets in his face and yells at him at the top of her lungs.
Was I wrong to tell her that she should bring that to me and let me handle it instead of taking the word of her favorite grandkid? (only girl)
If MIL didn't see your son throw something, I'm a bit surprised she would act that way. Might want to keep her away from your child if she behaves that way.

This is the OT. Everyone grew up with parents who beat the shite out of them. Yet nobody is trashy somehow....

Correcting, yes. No one spanks my child.

You can be the one to tell my mom she shouldn't discipline her grandkids, she would probably slap you and I am not joking. My youngest nephew is in 7th grade now, but when my nieces and nephews were younger, if they were acting up in front of my mom (their grandmother) she didn't care. I saw her slap one of them one time for not listening to their mother. She was the same way with her kids, she would slap me like it was nobody's business.

Correcting? Sure. Spanking? No. I won't allow anyone to spank my son.
Man up and draw the line. Kids need to know absolute limits for acceptable behavior.
And if the people who raised you and your so didn't have the judgment to discipline and properly raise you, how did you get this far? Blind Luck??
If you can't trust your parents and your so's parent's judgement, you have trust issues. Kids need to be straightened out from time to time and grand parents are just fine when you are not around.

I was much more scared growing up getting my butt whipped by my grandparents than my parents. My abuela and that shoe. She'd throw it at you if she had to.
Posted on 5/9/16 at 1:36 am to Moustache
We trust grandparents to do what is necessary but nobody watches our kids often.

My parents know what I expect from my kids. They won't do it but I'd let them spank my son if he was being a little shite...
Posted on 5/9/16 at 4:45 am to Moustache
It's your fault your kids are such little shits that others feel the need to discipline them.
Posted on 5/9/16 at 6:25 am to Moustache
If I'm not around to handle it absolutely same goes for aunts and uncles.
