I believe that if you have a good relationship with your parents, and they were judicious with their levels and types of discipline, that you should continue to trust their decision-making abilities with your child(ren).

shite pisses me off. My son becomes a ridiculously spoiled brat when they're around and then it takes a few days of tantrums to get him back into normal mode.

My little brother washed my grandparents' Cadillac with a rock. They threatened my Dad if he spanked him.

Lol. Enjoy the monster you're creating. You are condemning him to a disappointing life and yourself to a world of abuse from your angel.
Man up and draw the line. Kids need to know absolute limits for acceptable behavior.
I wasn't spanked as a child. Neither was my wife. We're both professional adults who've never been in trouble with anyone in our lives. We'll discipline the same way that our parents did and we'll expect our parents to discipline our son the same way that they disciplined us.

I believe it should be left to the parents for discipline.
What say the OT?
If you don't trust your own parents (or your spouse's) to properly discipline your child(ren) then don't leave your child(ren) with them.

Based on this stipulation, my answer would be no, it is not acceptable. If you're available, you should do the disciplining. They're your responsibility in the long run, so you should be as hands-on as possible in their upbringing. For better or worse, my parents should not be the one making parenting decisions for my kids when I'm available to do just that.

Two set of grandparents for my kids, they have never had to spank my kids. My kids are at an age they know they better respect their grandparents because I will bust their little a$$ if they do not. Told my 14 year old that he will never be so old that I will not bust his butt. He will do what he should, not what he wants! There is one source of hard discipline in our family, my wife and I. My kids better address their elders as sir and ma'am and better get off their butts and do what they are told by their grandparents.
