My grandma used to swing whatever she had in her hands at you. My mom said she used to get hit with pans and knives

My grandfather passed me a slap anytime he saw fit regardless of who was present.

Of course I didn't say that to her where he could hear it. I pulled her aside after the incident.

He's not an angel. He's an a-hole. I've had to spank him and yell at him all fricking day. He is a stubborn little shite, but I think if I'm there, he doesn't need fricking everyone yelling at him- especially for something he didn't do. He did do a lot of annoying shite tonight, but he didn't do this.

She needs to be told not to yell at a 5 year old regardless
I do think grandparents should be able to discipline (though that's not what yelling is), but I also don't want to be undermined

My mother stopped on the side of the road, got a switch and whipped my nephews' arse. She never had another problem with him minding her after that.

My grandpaw never had to spank me, because when I was like 6 or 7 I did something stupid, can't even remember what, and my mom pulled me aside and told me not to piss him off he was as strong as Hercules (my favorite show at the time) and would let me have it if I was ever bad. I never misbehaved at their house after that.
Watched him rep out 300+ pounds on bench like it was nothing at over 60 and to this day I'm glad my mom had that talk with me.

Correcting? Sure. Spanking? No. I won't allow anyone to spank my son. He's not even a year and a half old yet though, so my opinion on the matter may change.

It should be parents choice.
My wife and I are personally ok with our parents judgement to discipline our child so we allow it.
But if we didn't want it then we wouldn't allow it.

Ignoring the internet hard-asses, it is a good question. I don't mind them correcting, depending on how they do it, but I want to make sure it's for something I also wouldn't allow.
YMMV, but my in-laws can be a little tarded, so they don't get free reign.

Of course the grandparents should be allowed to discipline the grandkids. If you have issues on how or about what they are disciplining them for then by all means discuss it with them, but that's crazy to think that only the parents should do any disciplining.
