I really don't understand it at all. What incentive is there for people to go to work and get off food stamps? I think that this program is a necessity, but it's a temporary safety valve that many people need and should use. But it's not a lifetime contract. And that's where I have a massive problem with Edwards' ideal on this.

I'm more worried about the face that he's fixing to raise my taxes through the roof. I've yet to see a single proposal from JBE that cuts anything. Everything he has proposed so far requires additional money which the state does not have. To the republicans that voted for him

just wait until he lets 5500 inmates out of prison and add them to the "not working sucking off the govt tit" group.

Yes. There is a certain percentage of able bodied people that will never work. I know one...instead of getting a job and paying insurance they choose for her not to work and get Medicaid (or whatever it is called). Since they aren't married he chooses to pay a fine for not carrying insurance while she and the daughter are on Medicaid...just had her in the hospital at our expense and she never would have been there had she had to pay any deductibles or percentages of the care provided.

they don't have to make that choice...because of politicians and people who allow them to live off taxpayers.

Just to be clear, Edwards isn't changing anything from my reading. The "work requirement" appears to be something new...and he's asking to be excepted from the change this time around because some 32,000 people would be affected. I'd prefer the work requirement, but it seems misleading to say he's "removing" something that hasn't been there before. What happens if the work rule is implemented? You think the deadbeats abusing the system are going to put on their work boots and head to the factory?? Hell no...they will more than likely grab their guns and start robbing people. That's what we have created, sad to say...

might as well just abolish working and let everyone live off of the govt.

That wouldn't work in the democratic ideal either......have to have a few of the 1% work so the government.can tax them to pay for everyone else....
