You obviously never drove a Samurai.
Sure...it was made out of a tin can and would roll over in a parking lot, but with a manual they were fun as shite to drive.

Dont do it. I have a 2016 as a company vehicle. Its slow, too small and just doesnt ride well. Its also only has a 13 gallon fuel tank so you are always at the pump being that you’ll only avg around 20 mpg. What 4 cyl vehicle only avgs 20mpg?

My wife had a compass and liked it. Too small though and not much power at all.

The Rogue should meet all your needs as a grocery getter/short commute vehicle. It was the best selling passenger vehicle a year or two ago, but the OT gonna OT.
Subaru Crosstreks hold their value better but have piss nothing for options and if you don't need the AWD there's no reason to pay the premium. Mazda CX-5s get the best reviews on average in that market. Didn't test one of them, but I've heard they're the most fun entry in a pretty boring car segment.
Avoid the Jeep like the fricking plague. Definitely check out a roided up Hyundai though, should be able to get one for a steal.

Jeep vehicles are almost worse than Chrysler. Think about that.

You would be better off flushing your money down your toilet or just giving it to me!

One of the reasons I went to manual transmission and no 4WD. I actually get right at 30 MPG. Not great, but not awful either.

Word is anything outside of the Wrangler is a piece of shite.
Yea, the word from a bunch of asshats who have never even owned a Jeep.
As for the OP, I would say she'd be better off getting a used Cherokee or used Grand Cherokee.
If she wants a Compass she should look at the new gen that came out in 2017 as it's better in pretty much every way.

We had a new one when they first came out. 3 years later the transmission dropped riding down the road. Of course out of warranty. Was going to be thousands of dollars to fix. We got something else instead of fixing it.
We bought one new first year they came out as well. Year and half in the transmission went out. Had the transmission replaced. 6 months after the car was paid off, that transmission went out.

Thoughts on the Nissan Rogue?
Was looking last week at one, new. Even tested it. I did like it, but the price tag for the upper ones, they were prod of them. Listed at $27500 and willing to take off $1350. SURRRRRE.

Looked at 4 different crossovers. Dang Mazda was the best over all, but hated that fugly front grill.
Sit looking and in no rush.

Had a rental one in Orlando.
Thought it was a great vehicle for a college kid.
