I'm in North Texas as well and this has been going around social media after someone in Lewisville posted it. Allen's high school stadium was $60M and McKinney's was $70M. Some of that was paid by advertising sure, but most was tax dollars.

It's ridiculous that we need safety measures like this in a school and I think that's why people balk because "what are the odds?!" But those odds keep getting worse as these events keep happening and we're still relying on locking doors and kids hiding under their desks.

What if the next shooter kills kids on the playground or outside the school? Build schools to look like prisons with high fences and razor wire surrounding the school property. Then the next shooter kills a bus load of kids on their way to or from school. Where does it end?

It may not be ideal but if we can't stop this from happening, it does not and should not end.

There should be no limits we go to to protect children, but you're implying we should just throw our hands up and say, "Welp, sorry kids there isn't any more we can do for you, good luck."

Agree. Maybe stop playing defense and start playing some offense. First thing that comes to mind is pass a law that outlaws the publicity these people seek. They all end up dead anyway so its not like they are going to be running around. I'm freedom of speech and free press as they come, but remove a, just a, motivator and maybe it is a start.

Who knows what the cost is now but as a parent I’d think it’s worth looking into.

I was privileged to attend an Active Shooter defense training session put on at my work by retired PC, Jeff Leduff. Since he retired he went to work with a national commision of law enforcement on mass shootings and he has actively participated in post analysis of these events. He shared with us several findings.

The first thing that video in the OP shows is a teacher herding kids into a mass in the corner. This was a wrong move. At SandyHook I believe it was stated that teachers did this a the shooter was able to shoot into the pile and inflict multiple casualties per shot and not miss.

My biggest point though is to attend a session like this if you get a chance. In situations like this most people panic and do nothing or something not well thought out. Even if you do not have a gun you have options better than dying on your knees. Cant say I know what I would do in this situation but I do know some tricks to try.

While I agree we need more robust solutions we should allow the designed door opening to protect us. When we start adding aftermarket items not intended to work within life safety code we put our children at further risk. Fortify the door and hardware to delay the intruder.

Lining up against a wall with desks turned over reminds me of the “Duck and Cover” during nuclear attack. I still say each classroom needs two exits. I can’t remember any classrooms from 1-12 that had more than one door. Only the auditorium-type classes in college had multiple exits. Fish in a barrel.

1) train & allow teachers to carry if they wish
2) all students must see the school counselor mandatory 3x during the course of a school year .
3) Magnetic doors that automatically lock & can be opened from inside, unless over ridden by officials. On all doors! Bell rings, classroom doors lock.
Like the ones in the capital..u kno the ones they turned off j6…?????
