I obviously can interpret information a hell of a lot better than you

Overall, the SCF data show that about 40% of all workers aged 55-64 in 2013 expect to receive a traditional pension benefit in retirement.

Now Junior, go read my post, read this one and you'll feel like the idiot you probably are.

So 40% of people that age expect to have that while only 2% of workers total have a defined benefit plan? I know I'm just a dumbass millennial who will never be able to accumulate the wisdom of a person like you, but please math me that. It just doesn't add up.

Also, expect to have and have do not mean the same thing.

Yes Jethro. Everything posted has been about this age group. Did you read the OP or are you waiting on pictures?

I know that. I was promulgating that 40% of that age range can't be correct because just that subset of that age range would out number the percentage of dbp's of total workers.

As an inside just because I'm curious, what is your vocation?

My dad only has like 1.2 in retirement, and we are worried with increasing healthcare and my moms shopping addiction, that won’t cut it

Most union and government workers older than 55 or so have defined pensions if they were hired more than 15 years ago. The pct of people in the workforce over the age of 55 is around 20%.

So 40% of 20% of the workforce (or 8% of the workforce) has pentioms according to you. 2% of workers according to official us government statistics have defined benefit plans. That doesn't make any sense.

I'll give you the chance to go back and edit this. Your information is all fricked up.

Either that or you need someone to interpret it for you. Start with the link you posted on the last page.

I hope you fricking lose everything. Doing your best to put a roof over your family isn’t being exorbitant.

Its not just the house, which I agree are expensive, and $350K does not buy much in many areas. But the house usually will have two late model high end vehicles, and a ski boat in the garage, that plus two trips a year to Disney World, the family ski trip, lawn service, and a up to date wardrobe for everyone puts a huge dent in the ability to save and invest even for a couple even making 200K a year.

Your own link is for private employers only, and even that is more than 2%

I have no idea how your pulling up this info, but it's totally irrelevant

I didn’t read the whole thread, someone might have already commented on this but:

Anyone read the article?

The bulk of it is focused on the growing narrative I see time and time again:

401k is a failed experiment, “people need to be taken care of” drum beating.

Where I work most people who have been there a while have traditional pensions. I don't. I stuff as much as I can in my retirement accounts.
