Isn’t it funny that while travel baseball/softball is basically catering to wealthier families vs dance/cheerleading caterers to families that can barely afford rent.

I don’t have much of an opinion on travel baseball specifically, but kids who want to maximize their athletic ability should be playing multiple sports, even within the same season, up until they are 12 or so. Travel sports that take up whole weekends make that difficult, I would imagine.

I coached 12u club lacrosse for a few years, and all our best players also played baseball in the same season. This is in VA where they could play Little League, so maybe it’s different.

I have a job that I’ve been at for along time and have a good bit of vacation. I usually take a chunk of vacation in the summers to be with my children. With that said we will not be taking a family vacation this year because of the extensive travel of both of my children’s team.

Not sure what they call it. But the wife has a friend with 2 boys who just went to Dallas last weekend to play football. That is crazy.

No it’s not. You don’t know him to say it’s a shame. It’s a shame to you maybe. But that’s your own opinion. I can say it’s a shame for whatever you do with your vacation.

For a space that claims to hate travel ball, every thread about it ends up being three pages long. Most of the negative comments come from people with no firsthand experience in the tourney ball community just repeating what they’ve heard. Others couldn’t throw a baseball 50 feet without looking 8 year old girl.

A lot of people have a lot to say without actually participating.

I just got back from practice with my kid’s tourney team. He plays with kids from five different towns. If he were in rec ball, he wouldn’t have gotten the reps he had tonight, the level of teaching, or the chance to hang out with 10 other kids he likely wouldn’t have met otherwise.

The problem is that most people only see one side of the coin. Like anything, there’s more than one perspective. Yes, there are people who take it way too seriously, and that’s what many of you focus on.

But on the other side, I’ve met a lot of great people in this community, people I never would have crossed paths with if my kid didn’t love playing.

When I was a kid , All that was necessary was a glove . Coach brought the bats, the bases and batting helmets...that stunk. For a nominal fee you got uniforms that local businesses would help sponsor. You did not need to "invest" and buy expensive bats for each kid to bring to practice. Your games were at area playgrounds on Saturdays and Wednesday evenings. Our idea of travel was going from Orleans Parish to Metairie or maybe Greta. We slept at home on the weekends.....not hotel rooms.

Yeah and when I was a kid, all I had was a phone on the wall and a phone in another room where maybe we got some privacy every once in a while.

Things change. Things evolve

If you don’t do the same, you die along with what used to be.

This is how it is.

I haul all the equipment. We even have extra gloves and cleats for kids.

We have great bats and helmets. Decent catchers gear. Mover the years I have buckets of balls. This year we had to get a sponsor and my company covered everything but socks and belts.

There is no registration fee where we play. It's free.

All games are within a mile or so. No weekends.

It was once told to me by a former travel ball coach/manager and it all just clicked...

"SOMEBODY will take your money."

People are making bank off you and your family. It's your fault if you just keep giving it to them.

Given the breadth of discussion topics on this board, I’m constantly amazed at the amount of travel ball threads started.
