I pay like 425 bucks for a 315k house and like 50k in contents coverage. Dirt cheap in the grand scheme of things. But if it's not required, I have ever to pay out of pocker....no escrow. I live on a hill and if I truly flood, 90% of Houston is underwater. But if it rains fast enough, water can easily back up on the side of my house while flowing downhill. There's always a chance, so it's worth it for sure.

All depends on how high your particular house is built in relation to the base flood of the area

You could literally be paying hundreds less than people on your street

You can get excess flood coverage but the rates aren't cheap, significantly more than standard flood coverage. If imagine most agencies can provide you an excess flood policy

How much extra did it cost you a year? And what zone are you in? I feel like they are gonna price gouge on the flood insurance policies for non flood zones after this incident.

I'm in zone x. I luckily didn't take on water. I want to get flood insurance, but I feel like if I get it in the near future the prices are gonna be an over reaction to this recent event.

I hope damn near everyone feels the same way. Unless you live on top of a hill, you need it.

They aren't going to price gouge non required zone, the rates are set by the federal government. They aren't going to substantially raise rates do to flooding in a localized area. You are paying the same rate in a non required zone as someone 5 states over.

Pretty much the only way you will end up paying significantly more is if they redo the flood maps and you are moved to a required zone

There is a misconception on flood. No one is outside of a flood zone, everyone here is in a flood zone just some are in non-required zones

X, C, B are the non-requireds

Technically there is a small difference when it comes to the flood plains.

I believe X and C zones are outside of the 500 year flood plain and B is in the 500 year flood plain. When it comes to price there is no difference as anything in the 500 year flood plain or outside of it pays the non-required rate

I didn't have flood insurance but will be getting it for sure now. It's only 450/year for me. Seems crazy not to get it now
