Edwards, a Democrat who won reelection last fall despite Trump coming to Louisiana to repeatedly campaign against him, continued to strike a conciliatory tone he has deployed since the election ended. He praised Trump’s aid to Louisiana, including a field hospital, Navy officers and ventilators, along with the new promise of more testing. Trump likewise said testing has allowed Edwards to be successful in his response to the virus.
“They’ve committed to resourcing Louisiana’s request for 200,000 test kits per month,” Edwards said of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. “That gets us to 43 out of every 1,000 tested each month. We believe that’s sufficient for us to move forward as we’re able to reopen our economy.”

Louisiana has already performed 112,000 tests in April. With a max of almost 11,000 in one day (back in the middle of the month). Right now we are only doing about 4-5k per day as needed. Is 200k really necessary at this point?

I think he knows he’s on thin ice right now and he’ll face open revolt if he tries to move it past May 15

That’s my point. Case totals is as well. All that should matter at this point is hospitalizations and vent use. Since those are the metrics that actually matter and mean something to our readiness to handle the spread.

You gotta approach it like this:
1 - He's gonna keep pushing this thing back two weeks at a time.
2- If he doesn't and starts opening on May 15, he has bowed to the mighty will of the OT and the Louisiana legislature (the ones in the right party, of course).
That way, you will always be right.

I read today that LA lost over 20k jobs year over year from 3/19-3/20. This was measured pre Rona shutdown in an expanding economy. Never better.

Exactly. Y’all remember when this whole “flatten the curve” thing was just about not overwhelming hospitals? Now it has become about tests per day, etc as the goalposts keep moving around.
