This day in history Auschwitz (1940) begins operations.
1967 British Movietone Short

Chilling how such an event could have ever been allowed to occur. May we never repeat it.

It has been repeated since then, maybe not on the same scale, but it wasn't the first or last genocide.

Leave it to the Germans to engineer a better way to genocide

Not even in the top three for the biggest genocide

Before cable news and the internet, you could get away with almost anything. The average person probably had no clue what was going on behind those walls.

It’s anazing people treated other people this way as recent as 1940s. Scary to think if shite ever hit the fan here what humans would do to each other.

It's happening right now all over Africa and the ME- although it should be pointed out the cultures that infest those areas are at a pre 20th centure level of sophistication

I don't think it is necessary for the shtf for people to act this way. look at what those savages did to a 100% innocent truck driver and the Los Angeles riots.

In almost all large cities after a natural disaster hits people revert to a more primal level. Interesting how that does not happen in more rural areas....

Stalin’s regime put up some pretty depressing numbers too.

Less population density confers more breathing space. If the system broke down for an extended length of time rural areas would go feral too. We aren't any more noble than city dwellers. There are plenty of people around me I wouldn't trust in a survival situation.

Society is a thin veil that hides our true nature from ourselves. We’re animals. No different than the rest. Occasionally our true selves break through the veil.

Repeat it? What rock have you been living under? Not only have we repeated it, in the past 40+ years we've liquidated more innocent lives than Hitler could have ever imagined even in his wet dreams.
