Indeed. He was treated at the hospital for Malaria and Dysentery and returned to active duty making the D-Day Landing on June 6, 1944.

Much of the reality is that most of the US generals did not understand Patton‘s theory of war. Eisenhower and most of the top generals operated under the theory of building up more military capital than your opponent, then attacking his army head on in order to wear him down. Essentially, a war of attrition. Patton‘s theory of war is mobile and dynamic. He attacked weak spots and exploded them. He kept his forces nimble so that they could turn on a dime and coordinate he can attack in any direction. He relied heavily on his own G2 intelligence to determine enemy strength, position, weak spots, and intent. The blood and guts comments are factually incorrect. His armor units sustained 30% LESS casualties than any other amongst the allies. His infantry sustained 7% LESS casualties amongst the allies. He would have ended the war by January or sooner if they had let him close the loop at Falaise, not diverted resources to Market Garden and then to build up the entire line before moving into Germany. It’s the only reason he didn’t take Berlin by Christmas. Read what the Germans wrote about him. They were scared to death of him.

Dad served under Patton. He always said that guy deserved an arse whipping rather than a little slap on the cheek.

I know right? It takes a real a-hole to leave your buddies on the front and go hide in a hospital.

Read the Patton Papers by Martin Blumenson. I have the 3 volume set. It's one of my favorite books and it draws extensively from his diary's. He kept one from age 11 or 12 onwards. It gives great incite into the man.

Blumenson also wrote a nice book on the Falaise Pocket. I think the name was Battle Of The Generals

I'm certain Pvt. Kuhl died that day, regardless of what happened afterwards
Kuhl survived the war and died of a heart attack in 71.
the year before he had appeared on The Mike Douglas Show; I saw a clip from it in a Patton doc.

FWIW Patton also slapped another soldier, though I recently heard this wasn't due to malingering/battle fatigue, but b/c the soldier "mouthed off" to him
