Things to do in the Jackson MS area?

Is there a cultural website with a calendar of events?
Also, good area to stay? We have to be Brandon, but not early...so we can drive over.
I normally try to avoid driving that far from the coast, but I have many upcoming weekends up there so I'll try to make the best of it with my family.
TIA.

I'm serious. There has to be theatre or art scene or something, Millsaps is the Tulane of MS, and its right there.

Drive straight to a gas station and fill up, get on the highway, and just go in any direction for as long as you can

Jackson is a wonderful place to fill up your car with gas and drive anywhere else. Doesn't matter where, just anywhere else.

Try not to get robbed or shot, that's probably the most ideal thing to do there.

You decided to let your child play travel soccer or baseball?
Go to Bass Pro Shop area in Pearl. It’s not great, but you can find things to do that will kill a few hours. Other than that, you could go to Vicksburg and see the Civil War Park. Check out the capital area before dark. It’s not exactly a tourist city, but you can do those things the first couple of weekends until football season starts and then just catch the games at a good bar/restaurant.
Depending on the age of your children there is a decent Children’s Museum.
As for arts, Millsaps probably won’t have much until school starts back. The symphony does not have any shows this month either.

Meth or Crack or other drugs to help you believe you are anywhere else.

Make friends at the lake.
Admire the roman architecture in Madison.
Try to avoid getting shot by hanging out in Madison.

Don't mislead the boy to believe there is decent fried chicken in Jackson MS.

About 20 years ago the museum was decent. Have no idea these days.

I checked Eventbrite, and it looks like they have some event in the Bellhaven area for today.
