Astoria is north of Cannon beach, where the Columbia meets the pacific.

if you’re staying near mt hood you’ll likely drive right by multnomah falls. if youve got time hading eastbound, pass it and get off a couple miles past. westbound, get off a few miles before. there’s a cool frontage road that passes a couple smaller falls (with parking) and far fewer people. multnomah is badass tho. 10 minute or so hike to that bridge. again if you have more time and are into that sort of thing, it’s a 45-hour hike to the top

I haven’t seen this mentioned yet but there are a lot of great vineyards. Willamette Valley Vineyards is kind of on the way to Cannon beach from Portland.

Theres at least one spot with rows of food trucks and you can pick dishes from many different parts of the world. it's not expensive either. Highly recommend.

You may want a little practice here.

When the bloc leader shouts "Who's streets?"

You scream at the top of your lungs "Our streets!"

Also, look for corners with newly placed pallettes of bricks on corners.

I liked the giant bookstore. I found used signed copies of books from my favorite author and i was browsing next to Flea from the RHCPs.

was just there for a day and a half last week. I'd only go back if I were packing heat, which I wasn't.

How scared are you if Portland scares you?

I’m only nervous my car will get broken into so I avoid downtown.

But not once have I ever thought, I need my gun. However, I am NOLA trained/qualified.

I worked in Astoria several years back. I drove from Portland through the mountains (not I-5). The scenery is breathtaking. I think it was basically the same drive you take to Cannon Beach. Worth it to me, but the drive is 2 almost 2 hours one way. Astoria was a nice little town, too.

Yes, Cannon Beach in Seaside Oregon is awesome. at night you can have your own beach fires, bring some blankets & you can set up right in front of the “GOONIES ROCKS”.

We stayed at place on the each with a hot tub overlooking the GOONIES Rocks, sit in the hot tub with some wine & some of the best views of your life.

And further south is Astoria which is beautiful too
small correction, Astoria is north of Cannon Beach.

eta- someone already caught it

That's the only thing I'd be worried about in Portland, Seattle, SF etc. That and being harassed by homeless people. Granted, I haven't been to any of those places in close to 15 years.
