Dutchtown area used to the be hotspot, but it seems theyve moved on to a small area in Prairieville.

I'm in Dutchtown. My neighborhood got hit a few times in early December. They used to target only the unlocked ones. This time they started popping locks

Yeap have a few 12 gauge shotguns and a 30/30. That should put a nice hole in someone.

That's no protection. A few years ago in BR my gf's beat up old Hyundai was broken into and her fricking factory radio was stolen.

lock your damn cars people

That, and even having an alarm, may not be enough, especially in the past couple of years. If you have keyless entry to your car, you are susceptible to thieves using a power amplifier to unlock the doors of your car.

Article On This New Problem

quote:

If you have a wireless key fob for a car with a remote keyless system, then you might want to start keeping your keys in a freezer or other Faraday Cage to protect it from high-tech thieves

quote:

car thieves can use a $17 "power amplifier" to boost the key searching capabilities, sometimes up to around 100 meters, and pull off a high-tech car break-in.

This is happening a lot in my neighborhood. They hit several cars in a night and every neighbor says that there is no sign of forced entry and they all have keyless entry type cars.

My car in Lafayette was broken into Monday night (door unlocked )... All they stole was a crown bag of change though.

Why is it that every time these threads get started, it's always prairieville? Coincidence? Or is it a big problem?

Two things.
1. Heroin is a motherfricking nightmare in this area compared to other parts of AP and BR. These burglaries are almost 100% likely to be the work of drug addicts.
2. APSO is extremely shorthanded in Pville. Gonzales has their own PD. The vast majority of growth in AP has been in Pville and Geismar. Pville needs their own PD. TLDR there's not nearly enough cops patrolling in Pville.
