They’re not testing everyone who’s been exposed and symptomatic - something to think about

A friend posted this on FB. Her sister was exposed to someone who tested positive for wuhan virus. They turned her away in Lafayette:
Seems they are only interested in those that already have one foot In the grave, and aren’t too terribly concerned about it spreading

Here's a personal update on Covid-19 in Lafayette. One of my sisters was exposed to Covid-19 during a conference in New Orleans. This week she began exhibiting symptoms. Because tests are advertised as being readily available here, she went to the walk-in clinic, in which she was told to wait inside her car, which is understandable. I wouldn't want to infect a waiting room full of sick patients either. They administered the flu test, and she was informed a few minutes later that she tested negative for the flu. She was asked to go around to the back door of the facility so the doctor could give her an exam. She explained that one of the people from the conference, in which she had close contact with tested positive for Covid-19 along with his wife. The doctor told her that because she didn't have an underlying condition, she was not going to be tested for Covid-19. She has severe epilepsy. She has an implant similar to a pacemaker, to help reduce the number of seizures she has. Unfortunately, this condition isn't one of the underlying conditions that qualify for testing. So if you think that Lafayette's numbers of Covid-19 cases are only 6 or 7, consider those who are symptomatic, with negative flu testings, who are refused this test. This may not be the case at other clinics, but this does get me thinking about the accuracy of those numbers and why the government is taking such extreme measures.

Testing will not stop the spread. Why waste testing supplies on those "exposed". Just treat symptoms and go get care if sickness gets worse.

We have patients in intensive care that aren’t being tested because it would not change treatment. Precautions are like they have Covid, but just not wasting a test if it makes no difference.
ETA- These patients aren’t counted as confirmed cases. If they die, won’t be counted either.

My mom was directly exposed.. They had a patient come in last Friday, all of the symptoms, negative flu test.. My mom talked to the lady, told her she needed to go to the ER, and wheeled her out of the clinic.. It’s been a week and my mom isn’t showing any symptoms, hope it stays that way, but they haven’t offered or told her or anyone else in her office they need to get tested..

How is your hospital bed/vent wise? Overrun? Room if needed?

They're not actively testing everyone with symptoms. They don't have the testing kits and secondly, they can't test everyone because they know in the general population you have thousands infected who are not tested. The more mass testing you do, the more panic happens and everyone goes to ER room with mild symptoms overwhelming hospitals. It will pull resources away from people who need immediate treatment in ICU. They're going to be treated like they have it if they show heavier symptoms anyway since they're in dire need. That can't happen it would overwhelm the healthcare system that's already overwhelmed.
In short: you have to deal with it yourself. If people would use common sense and precaution more testing is not necessary and everyone wins unless you're in a extreme need of healthcare(like the vulnerable). Yes, we're fricked and there's nothing you can do to stop this until the vaccine is on the market. Best hope is to slow spreading and hope it gives us a break during the summer which is definitely not guaranteed. It's possible it could mutate and die out which would be best case scenario.

So mortality rate should be lowered drastically

It sounds like allowing someone with “severe epilepsy” to drive around at high speeds in a 2 ton vehicle is way more dangerous than any possible WuFlu outcome.

She’s possibly showing some symptoms, but her primary concern is she was exposed to the virus. Her solution is to stroll into a clinic without notice or warning and expose everyone there.

Waiting for the test to come back doesn’t change the treatment. They don’t want to waste the test on healthy people who likely have it.
Stop spreading this bullshite

No shite. It's been alllll over the news to not do that and call ahead and ask what the clinic's protocol is.
Also....her "severe epilepsy" must be pretty well controlled if she is even allowed to drive like another poster mentioned.

When are people going to quit believing all the dumb shite on Facebook?

If they don't have enough tests...they have to conserve them and save them for those most vulnerable. What else would you have them do? They can't just wish for more tests to magically show up when they need it.

Took my 14 yr old to dr yesterday. Mild Fever coughing for a week. Neg flu. Doc said she sounded clear but ordered xray. Pneumonia showed up. Doc ordered antibiotics. I called back and said she needed to be tested for covid19. They sent orders to mandeville drive thru and she got tested. easy as that.
