if you're hammering a nail with the knowledge that the hammer could slip and bust your thumb, doesn't mean it was any less an accident if that happens.
the very definition of an accident is you took precautions to prevent an outcome, yet that outcome still happened.
I'm not sure what part of logic do you not understand.

No. One party caused it.
All of your other examples have deliberate causes. Not chewing completely, being outside in a thunderstorm, swimming in shark infested waters

This. I think what’s lost here is the idea of prevention.
1% chance, yeah, but did they still practice prevention?
Driving in my car, yeah, but am I also trying to avoid collisions and follow the traffic laws? Prevention.
ETA: shite, masterag.

I was given a really low percent chance of ever getting pregnant naturally. After having our son (via IVF), my OB said you better take this birth control correctly if you don't want another child, I don't care what it took you to have the first. He said they see it happen all the time.
My sister was the same. It took years to get pregnant with the first, then she had 4 more very easily.

Maybe its because people always use the term accident with pregnancy to mean something so negative is why I have a problem with it.
Well that’s you preconceived notions and not the definition of the word.

How does a doctor determine if you have a 1% chance of getting pregnant?
Its careless to give information like that to a patient
Especially when they take that 1% and somehow transform it into a 1 in 12000 chance or some gorilla math like that

I agree. But for this example were the 1%’ers using preventative measures? Saying they had a 1% chance so I’m gonna blow up my ole lady’s guts and it isn’t an accident if they get pregnant is debatable.
Didn’t read whole thread so sorry if that information is in there somewhere.

I agree. It’s fine to say “the chances are slim/unlikely”, but to assign a percentage probably meant to be somewhat hyperbolic is irresponsible because patients will take it literally. There is no way to give a figure like 1% to an individual.

That's a terrible dictionary example... a pregnancy doesn't just happen by chance, and it's sure as frick not without apparent or deliberate cause.
It requires a pretty specific set of actions, and there's a well established cause and effect.
ETA: At least in the generally accepted notion of getting pregnant... I'm sure there are freak occurrences in history that would legit be an accident.

I am debating the argument the OP and others have made that:

Wait I think I’m right though.
The definition says by chance. Those instances aren’t though. There are apparent causes to each.

Maybe im reading it wrong but willingly raw dogging and blowing in your ladies guts with even a .01 % chance is still not an accident.

You’re right. Shitty wording on my part. Agreed. Not an accident. More lazy and careless I guess.
