How have I never heard this word before? Why don’t we use it more. I think it does overlap some with therefore, but thereat feels like a much more open ended qualifier
1.
at that place.
"the journey would take them to the castle again and a call thereat would be possible"
2.
on account of or after that.

Looks like a portmanteau of "the real threat."

Just a seldom used old word and a cousin to thereat and thereupon.

It's cognate with therein, thereof, therefore etc.

It’s how “threat” is pronounced in the deep south. Two syllables.
Ex: Is that a thuh-ret?
Similarly, “athlete” is 3 syllables. ath-uh-leet

Maybe in your inbred places of the south that have to think too hard to speak a sentence
Where I come from, my entire sentence might be one syllable
