Is it ever a good idea to go down with the ship if you know your company is going under or if your position maybe eliminated? I understand looking for other jobs and getting a resume together, but is it ever not a good idea to just bounce?

Depends on if there will be a severance package and what it contains. I wouldn't imagine many companies would do this when going under, but eliminated positions they might.

Unless it is your company, why on earth would you not at least explore other options?

One of the companies I worked for went under and I stayed with them until the end to collect a nice, fat seperation check - and it helped that I had a job already lined up and starting the week after. If I knew the position was going to be eliminated, it would make sense to find something else asap..

Are you going to get a severance package if you get eliminated? If so, that gives you some cushion. I'd start getting your stuff together and looking for another job and wouldn't be afraid to bounce early if the right opportunity arose.

Yes. Easier to get a job with a job.

Staring unemployment in the face is a great idea. Hang around as long as you can.

I posted last week about being in the same situation. Before I had a chance to leave, I was canned and got a big fat severance package. It was great because I had another job lined up for October. Now I'm taking advantage of the break and looking at all potential options.

It's a tough call and different in every situation. Good luck.

Then I'd be looking to bounce sooner than later.

This should be a no brainer.
