we don't need your speculation as to what the wage "would be", we know illegal immigrants work for less than minimum wage.

Ok, now let's factor in not only immigration laws, but also currency translation

but in the addition of immigration laws

again, the only function this serves with regards to illegal immigrant workers is the de facto removal of federal labor laws.

If you don't like this example, then take the humble Walmart greeter.

Do you think the prevailing market rate for this job would be more or less than $7.25/hr?

They're main job is to stop theft so in the absence of a social safety net where there's more incentive to steal, put simply, more

well it also removes bargaining from the equation

No idea, honestly, probably not much more, maybe less

I think looking at individual jobs for this argument is kinda dumb, as the point is wages increases as a whole

I'm sure there would be outlier examples of wages decreasing, but I care very little about outliers

Ignoring the fact that you can get sent back to an unstable, drug lord ran, violence ridden country in your assessment is absolutely laughable

does it though? if the wages being paid are not sufficient to incentivize the risk involved with illegal immigration, then they simply won't come. On an individual level, no, the workers aren't leveraging their labor, but as a whole the market still very much does determine what the wages will be.

You keep making my point.

Given shittier and shittier alternatives, people will work for less and less money.

By removing government assistance, you are making the alternative to not working *shittier* than it is now. So explain why you think this will make wages increase.

US citizens can't be deported to Mexico for making a stink about their wages, it's pretty simple

Im not arguing that either way. I'm arguing you using illegal migrant workers to make that point is retarded

ETA: Also,

making a stink about their wages,

is not what makes wages rise.

My youngest went looking for a job and literally couldn’t get one. I guess people aren’t that hard up.

The sad part isn’t that your kid lied to you, it’s that you believed him and then posted here about believing him.

Correct. They either lied or are being picky about their job. I could start them at $12/hr right now

I assume they're school aged. Would you be flexible with hours and day availability?

That doesn’t change the fact that I’m embarrassed. We used to be a strong country with strong willed people who work hard. Now we literally can’t even fill jobs because our joke government decided it pays more to “stay home and stay safe” than it does to actually work.

You just went from reading about successes from before your time to dwelling on the failures in your time. That's a you problem

Definitely would have a conversation to see what works. None of our stores will hire someone who does not have any availability on the weekends. For my store, I require two shifts on the weekend and one during the week with consistency.

I feel like service has gotten really bad because the workers know they won’t be fired. We went to work of beer for drinks and a app a month ago and they said we couldn’t order food for at least 40 minutes and then it would probably be another 30 to get it.

Sounds like they suck at recruiting people

Hoe do you recruit when you literally can’t get people to just come in to submit a application by paying them. A large resort in FL had a multi day job fair offering to pay those that just show up, and offered significant sign on bonuses for those that want a job, they got zero attendance.
