I always assumed they were part of the Globetrotters road show and not a separate entity.

Nope, they've always been a separate org. Klotz played it straight for 50 years. He swore up and down they tried to win every game, with not even a hint of a smirk or smile.

I'm guessing Klotz is the owner in a way that Cowboy Bill Watts was the owner of Mid South Wrestling. And Ferrari was a GM in the way that Skandar Akbar was a manager.
