it appears as if the UBER model is properly designed for that situation.

how so?

is it just because most uber drivers do it as a side gig?

you couldn't make a living driving for uber in BR based on what I've seen

Who cares if the drivers make a living? It gives me a reliable ride when I am shitfaced and it gives some college student or some working man or woman the ability to make some extra money.

Win-Win in my book.

You have to go to school to become a cab driver?

You're going about this the wrong way. Stop asking for Über to be regulated as if it were a cab company and ask for less regulations on taxis.

No no school.
We do have to by state law have a Class D or better license. A yearly permit for the driver. A yearly permit for the car. A car reg. as a Hire passgener car. A com. Insurance policy.

State law dictates that in order to make money carrying people from point A to B you have to obtain a Class D or better license.

If and when an uber driver gets caught he/she can be charged with breaking the law. UBER doesn't hire drivers they call them Partners. By doing this it keeps them free from any legal wrongdoings. Now some on here get the message that we as a city are welcoming a company to come in and walk over everyone it can. Some points have been taking into consideration and some i laugh at the ignorance of the statement.

Quick ? did you know that UBER has been kicked from 7 major markets with 16 more soon to follow. One of those being it's home city San Francisco.

well, there aren't gonna be any uber-drivers if there isn't any incentive to become one

is that difficult to understand?

In how many places is that because of customer complaints and issues?

In how many of those places is that a result of the cab companies and local government trying to kick them out for political reasons?

PS in response to you saying that no one wants to be an UBER driver, I would be one if my car insurance was in my name. When that happens, I may start driving for UBER for extra cash.

For both reasons. UBER has no # to call and talk with customer service. They have 1000+ unresolved issues of customer complaints. The other is not following min requriements to operate in the city they are trying to provide services.

So your the one that didn't answer. I picked up people from there all night. I knew it would be busy with world cup games. I picked up 6 trips from there. Like i said people call then go back to partying and don't hear their or feel their phones ringing.

how about you give a reasonable eta. Last time I was in BR was St. Pattys day I called a cab to get me a Chelsea's. No ETA was given and I went back in the bar because I have dealt with YC before and I knew it would be awhile. 2 hours later no missed calls, I call YC again and asked for an ETA dispatch says 15 min, ok me and my group get some cheesy fries from the food truck and wait. 25 min later no cab, no call my group goes back in Chelseas and I wait for the cab. Another 10 min goes by I call YC again and they again say 15 min. So I wait and at 16 min I call again and they said one is on the way and should be there in a few min so I go in to get my group. Call comes in as I am waiting for a girl to use the bathroom I walk out and tell the driver to wait just a minute even tell him he can start the meter. It takes 4 minutes to get everybody and he is leaving with a car full of other ppl. I call YC bitching and they said another car will come get me and no charge. That takes an hour and the driver asks for a tip. So to recap it took over 3 hours for a cab to leave me standing at the bar and another hour to get a cab to actually take me home.

The sad thing is that is not the worst experience I have had with yellow cab.

I wonder what group was the lead in lobbying for the passage of that one.

They sure don't. Instead they are using this new fangled technology called "email".

Like others, I've had to call cab companies to file complaints. Percent of those issues that have been resolved? Zero.

Though I've used the support feature on the Uber app and received immediate feedback. Along with a credit. For something that was admittedly my fault.

Shouldn't you be fighting these issues instead of Uber

I just don't care if some sap wants to pay $6.50 for a cup of coffee or pay extra for a ride somewhere. I'm just happy that we have folks that happily pay folks that have a marketing degree.

The next morning I took uber 5.77 miles and was charged $15. GFY yellow cab.

Don't worry. Your customers will be Uber customers in the next couple weeks. You won't have to quit Yellow Cab. Your customers are all going to quit Yellow Cab for you.

You do realize that if it's not Uber, then some other company will come along very soon (within a few years) and absolutely shatter your business model, right? It is pretty much inevitable at this point. Uber, Lyft, et al just cracked the door open.

Bad example here, but i will work my way through this one. You are at Perkins rd overpass area on st. pattys day. Busiest day of the year for that area. Side streets are closed in the area so you sat at chelsea's instead of up by the barriacdes.

Next you call dispatch they say 15 min. What do you do you walk away from the point where you should be picked up. Sorry that's our fault we should ask if you wanna be picked up there or by the food truck.

Next you call back they say one is enroute and they should be there in a few minutes. Now when dispatch says this that means driver has taken the trip and is enroute. You walk into get your group. Few minutes later you get the call but now you are waiting on a girl to come out the bathroom. You walk out and tell cab to start meter. You dont tell the others in the group to go ahead and get in the cab. After 4 minutes he is leaving with other ppl.

Next you call yellow cab complain and they said they will send cab free of charge. This is where the story got good. We are independent contractors. Dispatch or call takers can't and will not say we will send a cab free of charge. The only person who can is the owner. He will not say that because you missed your cab. He will however try his hardest to get you one ASAP.

I thought your story had clout up to that point of the free ride. Thank you though for pointing out how when people call for a cab they go back in the bar or the walk down the street to a food truck or store. If there was a driver there then when you told him to turn on the meter he would have. I bet if we put your # into the system it will show you owe a $5.00 pay no ride for that day for not answering when we tried to call. We are GPS tracked in our cabs. We also are fare tracked meaning that dispatch can see how much we are charging on fares. I invite anyone to drive a cab for 2 weeks and see if their thoughts aren't changed on cabs in BR.

To be honest i hope there will be others that come in. If they come legally and fill out proper paperwork and pay proper fees then yes bring em.
