How? You have the chance to save 5x more humans with one pathway.

In this scenario you are not responsible for the setup of the train potentially crashing into people. You just choose to save/not save one path. You do not bear responsibility for the deaths of these people, despite your path choice.

you seem to argue that the value of person/people is quantifiable. This seems like an unethical view to me.

Who tied the 5 to the track?

I mean, who does that anymore?

That is the big issue here...

This sounds like a black and white silent movie.

I'm a John Stuart Mill disciple in most ethical decisions. I would be in this case with no further information which is how Foot intended it.

If they are all convicted murders you let the train go down the path that will kill the most

easy answer

Do nothing and allow the trolley to kill the five people on the main track.

i cold easily be sued for touching that lever. Say a prayer for forgiveness and send some nice flowers to the funeral masses

There is fight, flight and freeze. I freeze in emergency situations, so I would likely do nothing. When I was about 16, I saw a small child get kicked by a horse and I couldn’t move. Thankfully others ran to help him. I think, deep down, I just think I will frick up and make matters worse.
