. Buddy from college was from Pasadena and had a family house on Laguna Beach. Invited me to spend the Summer. No idea why he came south for school after spending a summer there.

Well, if he’s a football fan then i totally get it.. yeah Cali is light years better than the South in almost every way- but in re to sports in general, and football specifically- having lived in So Cal myself, the passion isnt even a fraction of what it is in the South…. The fans of USC and UCLA *think* * they know what’s up, but they literally have no idea.. it isnt their fault though, there’s just too many other things to do , and college football (and even pro football) just kind of get lost in the shuffle.. L.A. is a great place to live, i just dont think I’d want to spend my college years there .

Hilarious because he was a sports junkie and loved SEC football. The main reason he came south.

My favorite thing about that summer was he had to go to UCLA for summer school and left me at his house with his sister and all her friends. His mom would leave spending money on the counter every day. I really should apologize to him for things that happened with his sis.

He lived up the street from where they filmed Father of the Bride..remember the crew being in the street.

It was a magical world back then. Made to failed attempts to get into Playboy Mansion.

Guns N Roses at the Roxy or Trabadour had to be insane thing to experience. What a time to be alive.

The Troubadour in the early '70's with the core members of The Eagles opening for Linda Ronstadt, and a few months later making their debut there as The Eagles. All while living up the street in Jackson Browne's garage.

Timothy Dalton had a Licence to Kill.
Most underrated multi-film Bond. (Lazenby is a polarizing figure...I tend to believe like Dalton, he's the closest to Fleming's vision of 007.)
I haven't seen any Bonds since Craig in Casino Royale

That film and characterization are absolutely the closest the films I've seen have come to Fleming's Bond (the blond hair notwithstanding )

Check out the 1987 Mickey Rourke movie Barfly. There is some great footage of the strip -- you can see a big billboard for Spaceballs.

For all you metalheads, check out The Decline of Western Civilization Part II. All kinds of good footage from the strip, and some hilarious interviews - Ozzy drinking orange juice is the best. Directed by Penelope Spheeris from Nola, no less.

I will check this out tonight. If was in college during the Alternative years and caught all the shows of the 90's in New Orleans, but the late 80's on the Strip were just something I would have loved to experience. Like the poster above me said, seeing Slash on a Tuesday night or Nikki Sixx and Tommy Lee raising hell would have been a memory hard to forget. I would have tried to become a roadie when one of those bands hit it big.

Good timing, Vice TV just dropped a 8 episode series called "Dark side of the 90s" on Hulu.

Episode 2 is the Sunset Strip and Viper Room in the late 80s and early 90s when Depp bought it. Very good and they are only 45 minutes long.

They also have Trash TV, Beanie Babies, East/West rap fued, etc.

my company is based in LA and ive been going for 10 years. Ive gotten to like it.

I can give or take LA proper but there is so much within 30/45 minutes. Anywhere on the coast is beautiful. Ive hiked the Hollywood sign many times and its great.

I just spent a week in the OC at Huntington Beach. 65-70 everyday and sunny. you could do worse

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again:

California is an absolutely beautiful state ruined by the bat shite insane people that make up the majority now.
