I was wondering what you were trying to get at when you said there wasn't enough room for a boat to do that

Maximum effort to free the ship

Well for a ship that is longer than the Empire State Building....that a pretty impressive route it took....I've done some digging and people are saying the capt did that on purpose....the cock and balls

Will they be able to shore up the... shore... so it can handle the weight of the giant fricking cranes it's going to take to offload those Sea-Cans or are we gonna get to see flocks of Chinooks and Hinds picking them off the deck one at a time?
Therefore a floating crane (a derrick) with a long boom to remove any multiples of forward containers will do some good even if they can't reach the containers all the way towards the bow.
Right now, with the spiraling cost of demurrage, it'd probably be cheaper for the containers to go overboard and the ship freed more quickly than for the containers to be meticulously removed and placed on a barge.

I know nothing about canals and their depth, but wouldn't that be a massive hazard for other ships to get hung up on?

I've been wondering this myself. I've seen it suggested several times to offload containers to reduce the weight. The only thing is.....How?

Load them on a barge or another ship would probably be the better plan

4-point or 8-point mooring barges

True.
But they have to wait for the other traffic to clear the canal. There were something like 15 other ships behind her. I think it was posted earlier that there were a couple oil tankers behind waiting to be escorted back to the Red Sea.
What a clusterfrick.

The summum bonum is to get marine traffic going again.

During one of the wars Egypt sunk a bunch of ships to block the canal.
Ended up trapping a few merchant vessels in the canal for years until they could clear the obstructions.

The 1967 War trapped 15 international ships in the Suez Canal.
They were only freed in 1975, the crews were able to rotate out.
Only two of the 15 ships were able to leave under their own power:
Two West German ships.

Yeah I'm thinking the kind of cranes large enough to do this would take a little while to get to that area.
